New Music from Tomorrows Tulips

tomorrows_tulips_-_indy_rock_royalty_comb_cover__sm_3Been a weird few days for me, which is where this new track from Tomorrows Tulips fits into my world. It’s simple in about every possible way; the guitar just hangs out there, meandering through your speakers, vocals dripped atop the mix and percussion just plodding along. Still, something about it found its way into my mind, and I loved the band’s last full-length effort, so I’m interested to see where the rest of their forthcoming iNdy rock royalty comb ep goes. It’s being released by Burger Records, and doesn’t hurt that Calvin Johnson recorded it, so grab it HERE.

More Great Pop from Adult Books

adultsWe’ve got two great announcements! One, Adult Books will be appearing at our ATH Takes Over Nomad Party on March 15th (at the Nomad). Two, the band has another great single to share with you. Honestly, this is one of my favorite new pop acts, and Running from the Blowsis great, from first track to the last. There’s a little bit of a bounce in this track, and just the slightest wash on the vocals, all swept high into your ears by a delightful synth line. Pretty sure that March 4th can’t come soon enough for you, or us for that matter. Look for the LP via Lolipop and Burger Records.

Steady Rocker From Wax Witches

12509648_1255646871128919_1310003653927682046_nWax Witches, or the project of Alex Wall, has got a new album coming out in just about a month from Burger Records. In anticipation of this release, he’s shared the single below, “Morning Flowers,” which is a hazy rock tune that centers around the clean guitar riffs and distorted vocals. What’s great about this song is that it meanders, but you enjoy every instant of its sprawl– the track loops and loops on itself until you’re mesmerized in its borderline psych sound.

Be sure to lookout forMemory Painting, which is out March 18th.

Warped Pop from Emotional

emotionalYou’ll all be interested to know that Emotional is the new project from former Melted Toys member Brian Wakefield; you’ll be more interested to know that our first glimpse of new music from the outfit is perfectly blissful pop. Imagine yourself listening to a more warped, more electronically stimulated version of a Destroyer record, then you’ll find yourself in the place that is occupied by this San Fran outfit. They’ve just announced their first release, Ahh…the Name is Emotional, Baby…which is going to be handed by the trustworthy people over at Empty Cellar Records…and a million others.

New Music from Seth Bogart (Hunx!)

Hunx & PunxIt’s surprising to me that this new single from Seth Bogart has sort of flown under the radar, considering how important Hunx has been to the musical culture over the last few years. Perhaps it’s because on this tune he’s turned down the garage inflection, instead choosing for a more pop-centric approach to his songs. There’s some casio-keyboard beats and a distorted guitar meeting up with Seth’s voice. Personally, I always think he’s best when he’s writing introspective songs, such as on Hairdresser Blues. This new album is titled Forgotten Fantazy, it’s being released in late February by Burger Records.

Hazy Psych From Levitation Room

12240383_781517001959479_5592848956067417195_oWhen trolling for songs in internet land, one must always check with the labels they know are always killing it, so naturally, Burger Records is responsible for North LA’s Levitation Room. This track, “Crystal Ball,” is pretty much your textbook psych rock, but that doesn’t mean it’s plain or not worth a listen. It’s got a solidly catch choral hook as well as 70s-esque vocals, plus an overall mystical vibes surrounding the song. Their debut full length album, ETHOS, is due out in February, so keep your ears to the ground for more from the band.

Austin Spotlight: Another Grape St. Hit

Grape St.Remember when we put out that first Grape St. LP? Yeah, that was pretty sweet. But, the band have since gone on to release their latest album, this time with Burger Records. The album is titled Wallpaper, and if anything, it’s another assured dosage of garage pop power from Curtis O’ Mara. Listen to this new single they just tossed up to support their mini West Coast tour; it has long been a staple of their live show, and I have a feeling you’ll dig hearing it in the recorded version. If you haven’t done so already, be sure to grab their new LP. You can get their old debut HERE.

Can together Pangea Live Up to Tommy Stinson’s Expectations?

thephageThe power of a producer looms large in the indie realm. The likes of Ty Segall and Jason Quever just being at the helm on a studio session pretty much guarantees some instant “likes.” But, what if you go with someone heralded in the pantheon of bands, like a Tommy Stinson from the Replacements? This new single from together Pangea definitely sees the band playing tracks more to my liking, and the recording seems bright in all the perfect places; the guitars are crisp, and while there’s a bit of a rough edge to the vocals, it feels intentional. They’re releasing The Phage EP this Friday (10.16) via Burger Records, so give this new tune a listen to see if it’s up your alley.

Grape St. Album Release @ Hotel Vegas Tomorrow Night

Grape St.Really happy for our boys in Grape St.; they’ve moved on from our little label to really bang out their excellent new effort over at Burger Records. Luckily for Austinites, the band’s going to be celebrating their release tomorrow night over at Hotel Vegas. Their shows always get sweaty, and are nothing short of a classic rock n’ roll party, meaning you should schedule it in right now. As for their album, Wallpaper, it’s the best work Curtis has done since Harlem went on Hiatus; it’s gritty when it needs to be and poppy in all the right places. They’ll have CDs on sale for super cheap, with a slight delay in the vinyl, so that’s on its way too. Jam this track, one of my favorite live ones from the band.

Coromandelles Write Pop Music

cormondellesIt’s probably pretty clear that I’m obsessed with all things Tijuana Panthers, so when I realized that Coromandelles was a supergroup of sorts, fronted by Dan from TP, I of course got in on the party. However, there’s definitely a distinct difference, both stylistically and in the recording process. For me, it seems like the natural evolution of pop music in the last five or so years…taking on the garage/surf aesthetic and applying it to the swelling combination of harmonies and melody. It’s sort of like your favorite Cali garage bands doing their take on the Polyphonic Spree…minus the whole cult thing. The group release Late Bloomer’s Bloomers on October 20th via Porch Party Records.
