SXSW 2014 Interview: Pizza Time

pizza

Pizza Time is the Denver-based product of one David Pizza.  Not only does he like to rock the pizza rep, but he also spends a great deal of his time offering punk rock in Spanish.   He’s done some releases with the most excellent cats over at Burger Records (though I wonder if they had issue with the band name, but I suppose Burger Time was already taken).  Anyways, David is on his way to Austin for a great SXSW, so read on for his thoughts about the festival.

SXSW 2014 Interview: The Rich Hands

richhands“Have never checked that out but seems like it would be pretty cool!” Yo, this is what I’m talking about! SXSW Interviews.  This is one of the great things about SXSW; you get to discover brand new bands to love and adore. Perhaps one of those bands will be the Rich Hands, the Texas trio who seem to be working as hard as they can to get as many dates lined up for you as possible during the week. They have at least seven shows, so check out what they had to say, and try to hunt them down during the festival (their tour dates are at the bottom). Read more

Bart Davenport Unleashes New Tune

bart_davenport-800x400There’s only a couple of weeks before we all get to hear the the new record from Bart Davenport, Physical World.  There’s so many things to love about this new track; it’s got this dreamy pop styling in the music and the lyrical focuses on Bart’s indifference towards amassing popularity and fame.  It’s like a late 80s crooner just jumped out and started wining us over, which definitely works to the artist’s advantage, as there aren’t too many other acts swinging with this style at the moment.  Don’t forget that if you dig what you hear, you can grab the tune and others on March 4th from Burger Records.

Natural Child Expand Their Sound with Out in the Country

naturalchildIf you’re a follower of Natural Child, you could easily tell your friends that you saw this one coming.  From the moment they organized their “Family Band” the riotous barroom rockers have been aching to broaden their horizons.  They’re moving further from the blues-y garage rock styles they employed earlier on; they’re pushing more towards a solid country/blues world.  But, that being said, they’ve still got the chops to make their music a must have in any nerds collection. This smooth number is just an indicator that as they’re songwriting matures, they’re still just as bad ass as you expected them to be. Their new album Dancin With Wolves (which oddly doesn’t feature Kevin Costner on the cover) will be out via Burger Records on February 25th.

Little Bit of Soul from Curtis Harding

curtisWhat?! Burger Records is releasing a soul record? Yea, that’s what I thought too, but the old school music lover in me is really digging this tune from Curtis Harding. Harding’s got a great voice for the style, but I love the rest of the music in this track.  I miss the sound of a bunch of musicians throwing down like the days of Hitsville USA, throwing in horns and strings to flesh out the sound.  The ride on the high-hat is definitely a highlight on this particular track.  Soul Power will be out on April 22nd for those willing to go back in time.

Catchy Gem from Bart Davenport

bartdavenportI missed out on posting about Bart Davenport‘s first single, but I just couldn’t skip out on this one.  It’s a pretty classy little pop gem, reminiscent of the old Kings of Convenience.  There’s a warm melody and a gentler vocal delivery that carefully swings its way atop the track’s jangling guitars.  You might call it a classic pop formula, but who cares when it sounds this good?  You can grab Bart’s Physical World LP when it’s released on March 4th via Burger Records. These are the sort of tunes that warm my soul.

Mozes and the Firstborn Release New Track + Video

mozesYou can’t do everything with angst and energy on a Monday, so I felt like dropping off the latest single from Mozes and the Firstborn, whom I’ve discussed on these pages before.  Every time I listen to the band I have this wonderful sense of youthfulness; the songs from the bands seem to carry a sense of wandering and undying spirit.  This week the band released the video for “Skinny Girl,” which you can find HERE. It’s one of the many great songs on the band’s self-titled debut, hitting stores on February 11th via Burger Records.  Take a listen and let yourself get carried away.
