The Latest Single from Hit Bargain

Admittedly, I slept on the first single from Hit Bargain; I blame the whole prelude to SXSW…or whatever. But, I won’t miss out on sharing the band’s latest single with you, as it brings a ferocity that I’ve been missing as of late. Nora Singh’s rapid delivery stuttering atop those jagged guitar lines is perfect, and only more dangerous as the bass lines begin to pulse and throb forcing Mike Barron to join in the vocal barrage. It blasts through your speakers in under two minutes, making it perfect for consumption, on repeat. Look for the group’s Potential Maximizer LP to hit hard via Buzz Records on May 11th.

Smooth Pop from Beta Frontiers

betaFeel like going all over the place musically today, so it’s fitting that this new tune from Beta Frontiers came our way yesterday.  The tune’s predominantly the work of Michael Butler who works on production duties at his home in Toronto.  But, he found the perfect voice to fit this latest track with Carmen Elle, who also works in DIANA.  The light-hearted number sits well in her vocal range, making the song a sure-fire hit.  This single will be released on May 6th via Buzz Records, who’ve already had a nice hit this year with Odonis Odonis.

Noisy Noise Rocker from Odonis Odonis

odonisThe last few months we’ve tried to illustrate the musical growth of Odonis Odonis, a band who’ve grown since their inception.  But, let’s not pretend like we didn’t love the noise that the band brought forth from the get-go.  The song is in your face from the moment you press play, filled with discordant sounds and screeching vocals that require adequate earplugs.  They’re only a few short weeks away from the release of their newest LP, Hard Boiled Soft Boiled, which is out on April 15th via Buzz Records. You can check out a video of the track HERE.

More Jams from Odonis Odonis

odonisOf all the bands crafting noise-pop music at the moment, perhaps none have my heart more than Odonis Odonis.  The Canadian act are preparing for the release of Hard Boiled Soft Boiled, and this new song is just another reason that I’m backing the band to grab a huge following in 2014.  I love the way the guitars screech through the speakers, while a slight bit of pop sensibility gurgles beneath the noisy wash the group has created.  They’ve also created a nifty little video for the tune, which you can check out by jumping HERE. You can hear the whole record on April 15th via Buzz Records.

SXSW 2014 Interview: Odonis Odonis

OO_HBSB_PROMO_3_blood_HI_REZA lot of bands have a lot of time under their belts, but some bands are just starting to really make a big name for themselves. Odonis Odonis is one such band who’ve been picking up steam over the last couple of years; they are making their way down to Austin to rock you like you’ve not been rocked before.  It’s all going to continue to build up the eager anticipation to their forthcoming record Hard Boiled Soft Boiled, which comes out on April 15th.  Here’s what Dean Tzenos  had to say as the band heads our way.

Fuzzed Out Rocker from Odonis Odonis

odonisWarning. You’re going to want to turn down your speakers before you press play on this track.  There’s grinding guitar that bashes you over the ears, while the lyrics, though distant in the mix, maintain an atmosphere of coldness that goes in line with the modus operandi of Odonis Odonis.  This tune will be featured on the group’s up-coming LP, Hard Boiled Soft Boiled, which is said to express some diversity in the band’s songwriting.  Whatever it is, it’ll undoubtedly be loud.  You can grab it on April 15th via Buzz Records, and make sure to check out the video that accompanies this song HERE.

Playful Tune from Weaves

weavesMake sure you read that title carefully; I didn’t say Waaves!  This is Toronto’s Weaves, fronted by Jasmyn Burke, who’s previous work included fronting Rattail.  This new tune from the group is a bit like a more experimental version of Cursive’s Ugly Organ, with guitars fighting their way back and forth throughout the track, while an organ grinds in the background.  It’s definitely something a little bit different, which is why I’m digging the song.  The band’s official single will be out next week, but preview it here to get you in the mood for another great Toronto act.

Heavy Handed Rocker from Odonis Odonis

odonisodonisIt’s definitely the year for heavier-handed rock n’ roll to break back through into the mindset of indie fans everywhere.  There’s Milk Music and Metz, but now you can enjoy Odonis Odonis.  The group releases their Better EP on April 16th via Buzz Records, before they blast off on a tour that includes a date at Austin Psych Fest. This song has a swirling guitar part that’s emphasized by some industrial drumming; the lyrics don’t come across as heavy at first, but they’ll blast off to match the pace of the track.  Just another reason to turn up your speakers this year!
