While we here at ATH usually like to stick to local coverage, sometimes it’s hard to hide that what we’re really after is world domination. This Thursday, Friday, and Saturday I’ll be in Barcelona, Spain to bring you coverage of Primavera Sound 2014, whose sick lineup and stunning location was enough to lead me outside Austin for a bit. While you can look out for live tweets and festival recaps starting Thursday, I wanted to give you a brief preview of some under the radar bands that would be easy to overlook in all the big names at Primavera. Check out my top ten must see bands that you may be unfamiliar with after the jump.
I hadn’t really been out and about, at least not to a proper show, since SXSW. But, with the Brooklyn act, Caveman, coming to town with their friends Pure Bathing Culture, I thought it would be the perfect time to venture out; it didn’t hurt that they bands would be playing at the Parish, which always has great sounds.
Read on for my thoughts on the bands and your typical excellent shots from B. Gray.
So, I figure we are going to miss things. It is inevitable. Therefore, when I find something to share, it will get the PYAITK tag. It stands for put your ass in the know and was originally coined by Billy “Wicked” Wilson from Voodoo Extreme many years ago, RIP. #tribute
Anyway this song from Caveman hit the intarwebs last week and it certainly rings of an ATH favorite Snowmine, though Caveman may have a bigger audience than the band we like better. Thought you all may like a listen because I think it is the best thing the band has put out yet.
They’ll be here for SxSW and again a couple weeks later for an April Fool’s Day show at the Parish. Self-titled LP is due on 4/2 via Fat Possum.
|Date||Wednesday, May 25th|
|Tickets||$11 from Frontgate|
Honestly, I feel sort of like Here We Go Magic are becoming a local band; those kids play here all the time. That being said, we’ll gladly have them back any time, as long as they continue to give us great liver performances, and killer music like the recent January EP. They’ll be sweeping through town on Wednesday with another Brooklyn act in tow, giving us all a pretty solid reason to head out to the Parish midweek. Caveman and Shells (up-and-coming Austin band) will both open the evening, just before we get to the nitty-gritty jam-core of HWGM. You in? You better be.[audio:http://austintownhall.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/02-Hands-in-the-Sky-1.mp3]
