Feverbones and Good Field Play at Cheer Ups Tonight

Hopefully you Austinites remember that we just recently released the wonderful debut LP by Feverbones, Dream Talk. Well, tonight you’re likely to hear a set including several of those tracks, as the band take the stage with their friends (and ours), Good Field. But, rest assured, they aren’t the only bands, with Linen Closet and My Golden Calf also gracing the stage tonight. A bunch of really talented local acts ready all together to help ease your Hump Day ills? You betcha! See ya’ll there! Doors are at 9 PM!

Go See Tres Oui, Talkies and more Tonight @ Cheer Ups

Looking around at various spots, and it looks like this show this evening over at Cheer Ups is the best place to maximize your good times/good music. For starters, Talkies are celebrating their Tape Release tonight, so you should go on over and support a local band. But, if you’re not one to support local music, at least cheer on all the bands, as Nothing Song has gotten together a pretty solid bill; you’ve got Tres Oui, Talkies (of course), Springtime and the Changes, and the Hermits. All of these are reason alone to venture out, but I’ll throw in a hit or two below to further entice you. Doors are at 9!

RF Shannon Album Release Party Tonight @ Ch’ups

It’s a fairly busy Wednesday night over in Austin city limits…the likes of Half Waif, Vagabon and Kenny Chesney, but why not go local? There’s a great release show for RF Shannon happening over at Cheer Up Charlies this evening. The group just released Trickster Blues, which in my opinion has some of the best songs they’ve crafted, but you have to get there early as there are other perennial ATH faves taking the stage. Diamond Center always puts on an enjoyable set, and Jesse Woods is bound to bring his balladry to the Cheer Ups stage. Doors open at 9, and the place will fill up quick, so be there early!

SXSW Awards – 2018

Your friendly neighborhood ATH staff members have emerged from SXSW week and I think we’re all finally ready to reminiscence on what transpired. As we’ve done in the past, it seems like a perfect time to hand out some awards for the festival with superlatives that we made up like 5 minutes ago. Keep in mind we saw a lot of bands, had a bit to drink, and ventured out to more venues than we can possibly remember. So buckle up, hit the jump and see who we deemed worthy and deserving of our very prestigious awards.

Photos: Blushing Release Party @ Cheer Up (1/27)

Blushing‘s latest EP, WEAK, was released to the public last Friday and with it, we had an excuse to take over a venue and feature some favorite bands to celebrate. Cheer Up Charlies played host via The Nothing Song who added Ringo Deathstarr, Single Lash and All In The Golden Afternoon to fill the before and after spots.

I focused on spending time with friends, so the gallery is very Blushing-centric, but it was the EP’s brithday party.

A Night Out With Feverbones, Pollen RX and White Denim

Hello.

Nathan has announced that Feverbones is back and that they will be releasing new material soon on ATH Records. We are all really excited by this, they are remarkably talented musicians and it shows through with every song. It also means that you will be able to see them about town, so a benefit show at Mohawk with White Denim headlining and our friends Pollen RX playing next door at Cheer Up seemed like a perfect excuse to get together and take in a Feverbones set and get a quick band portrait.

So, I have just a few thoughts after the break with plenty of pics…

It’s hot here in Texas, but things are cooling down so I think it’s just about time you get your ass back out and go to a show. What show you say? Friday night is a great place to start with an all local lineup featuring many of our best and most promising bands. Alexalone and The Hermits will be headlining the the evening right before they head off on tour together. In the middle of the lineup is an old school ATH fave Zoltars who are sure to keep you rocking. Kicking things off you’ll be treated to Why Bonnie and More Eaze. Go See Basketball Shorts and Pollen Rx Tonight

Over at the Cheer Up Charlies this evening you’ll get a chance to catch two of the great acts on our little label, Basketball Shorts and Pollen Rx. Basketball Shorts are releasing a new 7″ featuring the killer catchy jam below, and Pollen Rx are a well-oiled machine after returning from tour. Plus, you get to see Rhett and Dean, as well as Break Time in the early part of the evening’s festivities. Come out and grab the new 7″ and maybe get one of those new cool Darren tank tops from the band as well! Let yourself live a little with a great Thursday night party.

Brand New Track from The Sour Notes

Local Austin favorites The Sour Notes are gearing up for the release of their next LP, Darkest Sour...and good news for you is we have a brand new single to share with you, and it might just be the band’s best track yet! “On Yer Mark” walks on the poppier side of indie rock, dwelling in that light-hearted realm that’s been owned by acts such as The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. The guitar chords have that angular jangle while keyboards push through the crowd. Jared Boulanger’s voice has the perfect softness to ride the song out, especially when we get the female accompaniment to polish off the pop substance. I’m just sitting here smiling, and I’m sure you’ll be doing the same. Plus, if you’re in Austin, the band play Thursday evening over at Cheer Up Charlies…and I’m sure their set will include many new hits for your ears!
