Last Week’s Jams (3.31 – 4.4)

While we covered a lot of territory, I’ll admit that there’s definitely a shadow hanging over last week’s jams, namely the much-hyped return of Allo’ Darlin. I also had to go back and make sure I added in that Day Friend to the list, as that’s one of my favorite ATX acts. Plus, the return of ATH faves the High Water Marks makes another weekly highlight, and now that I’m thinking about it…there’s just a ton of rad stuff here. We got other Austin stuff represented with a new single from Thor & Friends, not to mention this really great introduction to the Pennys (which has some ATX connections). Also, some photos of Hey Nothing ran with a show review, so we threw up their latest single too! Stream it all below!

Cleopatrick Drop Talk Down

While Cleopatrick has been around for nearly a decade, it seems their name just keeps popping up more and more around here. They just recently released Fake Moon, and already they’ve returned with a brand new track. You’re greeted with a thundering blast of guitars, perhaps shattering your calmed morning routine. But, they let the noise pull back, working more with a gentle whispering ballad that works over a heavily strummed guitar bit. From there, the group sort of tease you…will they explode, will they meander off into more ornate nature? Rest assured, they’re going to bring the rock your way, letting it hit once again as it reverberates through its surrounding. Guess you never know when they’re going to strike next, so maybe there’s even more new rock around the corner!

Last Week’s Jams (1.20 – 1.24)

Seems like this year so far, it’s been one step forward and two steps back, but feel like I got locked in during this short week, allowing me to get a solid bit of rock n’ roll out from underneath my inbox. We had a lot of Austin stuff to go through…MIEN, Gus Baldwin, Edith Frost, Skloss, Midcard…and maybe we consider Cross Record still! Lots of other new things popped up including the latest from Accessory and the Golden Dregs, which were to of my favorite tracks we go under. Several of the jams are some slow-burns, so take your time and enjoy the rock around you.

Cleopatrick Share New Single Please

I’m trying to dry out a bit from that super wild ice storm we had yesterday (teehee) and music seems to be the cure to ease the back at work doldrums. My pals in Toronto based group cleopatrick are helping assuage my morning anxiety pains with this hauntingly mellow and chilling new tune called “PLEASE.” It has some hints of a post-emo sound mixed in with an almost indielectronica vibe akin to say Postal Service or the like. I think you’ll find it an enjoyable and soothing listen on this cold Wednesday morning.

This track is part of the new cleopatrick album entitled Fake Moon, which is due out on March 14th via Nowhere Special Recordings/Thirty Tigers.
