Bouncy Indiepop from Parcel Post

parcelCloudberry Records has been fairly quiet as of late, which is understandable considering the difficult climate of running a boutique label.  But, as I was growing the site for an update, I ran across this gem of a tune from Parcel Post.  I wasn’t able to find too much information on the group themselves, but this tune’s pretty remarkable (I do know there’s some relation to Summer Cats and Fireflies).  It’s got the traditional indiepop jangle, but it also has some playful touches like the bells being hit in unison with the melody.  This is a single that’s coming via the label in conjunction with Kingfisher Bluez as part of a single series.  Sit back and feel good about yourself.

Return of Indiepop Greats The Haywains

Haywains-2012-01-300x225There are two great things about the resurgence of vinyl production over the last decade: great bands reemerge and great labels pop up.  One of my favorite little labels, Cloudberry Records, have signed on to release new music from  long silent group, The Haywains.  On May 30th we’ll get out our hands on the group’s new EP on May 30th, and it’s definitely going to be as infectious as this track.  You’ve got the deep-throated vocals backed by a soft-female bit, all playing to a spritely little bounce.  Glad to see this group back at it more regularly after almost a 20 year silence (they came back out in 2012–18 year silence).

Jagged Indiepop from The Spook School

FPOP156LPA bit back in time I came upon The Spook School, an Edinburgh act that had released a 7″ with Cloudberry Records.  It seems the group are on their way up, having signed with Fortuna Pop to release their latest LP, Dress Up.  On this single, bassist Anna Cory is rocking things out vocally, with the group’s sharp guitar work inserting both twee and noisier pop elements into your veins.  I like the fact that the band is working on hitting the main strokes of modern indiepop, but with a slightly heavier edge.  This is definitely a band you’ll want to keep an eye on, as songs this good are bound to make waves overseas.

Spritely Pop from Pale Spectres

palespectresI’m a few weeks late on this tune, but it’s just too good not to share with you all. I first caught wind of Pale Spectres when they had a release on Cloudberry Records, who apparently will be releasing their new EP featuring this very song.  The Paris act have easily won me over with this tune; it’s got a quick jangling guitar line that rings true to indiepop form, all the while providing you with a bubbling bass groove that encourages delighted toe-tapping.  It seems like a simple formula, but only a few bands can pull of executing a sound like this.

Indie Pop Bobbing with The Occasional Flickers

31230_121908194514116_3251031_nThere’s gotta be something in the water in Scotland that encourages the development of indie pop bands.  I can name a handful of bands that are on my all time favorites list, and a growing list of acts that keep pushing exporting great pop records.  My latest discovery is The Occasional Flickers who will soon be releasing their new single on Cloudberry Records.  There’s definitely an homage to early B&S here, with that driving guitar line that fits perfectly with the vocal melody; you’ll find yourself hooked to this track in absolutely no time at all.  Cheers to you Scotland, and your wonderful indie pop exports!

Noisy Girl-Pop from Flowers

There’s not too much information out there concerning Flowers, but I guess that’s too be expected considering the group’s name.  What I can tell you is that the UK outfit is going to have a four-song EP coming your way very soon from the good folks over at Cloudberry Records.  On this single, there’s a rush of distorted guitar and pounding drums, encouraged by the spritely female vocals that flow effortlessly throughout the track. This is the sort of music I dig at the moment, combining bits of noise and dainty elements of indie pop.  The EP should be out soon!

Great New Indie Pop from Alpaca Sports

It’s been what, a few months since I last raved about Alpaca Sports?  Well, the group has a brand new 7″ on one of my favorite little labels, Cloudberry Records.  The 7″ has a few tracks we’ve previously covered, but this is by far my favorite the group has put to tape.  There’s a slight little orchestral maneuver hiding in the dark here, but it really helps to accentuate the jangling guitars and the warm voice of Andreas Jonsson.  Songs like this often seem really simple in the greater context of things, but not too many bands are pulling of the execution as like what you’ll hear below.  Enjoy.

New Indie Pop from Tripping the Light Fantastic

Man, this band is ridiculously lovely.  You know my affinity for all things indie pop, and lately, Cloudberry Records, so it’s no surprise that the Hamburg group, Tripping the Light Fantastic are making my indie pop day.  They’ve got a single coming out on the label sometime soon, but my discovery allowed me to go back in time and revisit the group’s older work.  It’s been awhile since they’ve put anything out, but if it sounds as good as this, that doesn’t matter.  That opening jangle in the guitar building into the bright explosion of the vocals hooked me immediately, and I’m sure it’s going to be doing the same thing for you!

New Pop Track from Nixon

No! Not The Nixons, just Nixon.  Nixon is one of the band’s on the fantastic little label, Cloudberry Records.  They’ve got a new 7″ coming out, which will actually feature more than your typical two tracks (its got 4!).  This single is extremely gentle, and it goes with my mood from earlier in the weak, using a smooth guitar sound, with just a hint of jangle.  On the vocals, it appears like a home recording, providing you with an intimate experience, as if your listening in private to a mixtape made by your best friend.  Tracks like this remind me why I love indie-pop so much.  If anything, this is going to make you smile on a Friday.

Warm Pop from Earth First

One of my recent discoveries has been Cloudberry Records, who seem to be the perfect purveyors of fine indie-pop.  I’ve highlighted some gems by them already, and here’s another release from Earth First that you can get your hands on now! The group is a Brooklyn based act, though they sound nothing like what the city is known for at the moment…and I mean that as a compliment.  I love the warmth of the vocals, and the cascading jangling guitars that fill the background of the track.  If you love indie pop, go grab the latest 7″ from the band.
