Show Preview: ATH Council Meeting @ North Door (10/19)

Date 10/21/11
Location North Door
Doors 7pm
Tickets FREE!

That’s right ladies and gents, we’re back this Friday evening with another ATH council meeting at The North Door.  What is a council meeting you ask?  Well, it’s a meeting of the most upstanding gentlemen on the ATH staff and their high class friends.  We all gather ’round the bar while DJ Nate-L and RayRay spin the hottest hits this side of the Mississppi.  Rumor has it that the last council meeting consisted of cheap drinks, tasty tunes from all decades, loose women, and tons of booty shakin’.  Seriously, everyone had way more fun than you did pissing your savings away on West 6th.  Don’t forget that admission is free and your ATH Djs usually kick things off around 8pm.  Come say hi.

Head to the North Door website for a map of it’s location (it’s behind theND).

Show Preview: The Kills @ La Zona Rosa (4/20)

Date 4/20/11
Location La Zona Rosa
Doors 7pm
Tickets $20 @ Frontgate

The crazy mad week of shows we have in Austin continues on Wednesday night with a show by veteran duo The Kills at La Zona Rosa.  I’m sure most of you know the ATH fascination with Allison Mosshart so we promote that you find your way towards the front of the stage and enjoy the show.  Making the evening that much more enticing, solid opening bands Cold Cave and The Entrance Band will also be on hand.  This also gives us a great reason to finally share the band’s latest single “Satellite” which somehow never made it onto the site.

New Track from Cold Cave

Since Cold Cave have been around, I’ve regarded them casually, liking what I’ve sampled, but never over-indulging.  That’s going to change though, now that Matador has released the first single from their latest album, Cherish the Light Years, which comes out on April 5th.  Still present are the dense electronic elements, but the vocals sound so much more forceful than they’ve ever been, giving a certain since of urgency to the group’s sound.  It’s a noisy number, but in the end, that’s what builds the anticipation for this record, as the band are willing getting a little bit grittier with their sound, going further into the darker side of their sound.  Besides, who doesn’t love a good Pan reference?

New Tunes from Cold Cave

cold_cavePhilly group Cold Cave are releasing their latest LP, Love Comes Close, on Heartworm.  Since it just rained here in Austin, we figured you need some dark synth-pop to get you moving through the rest of the day, which is why we bring you “Life Magazine.”  There’s nothing like the electronic pulse of a song such as this to get you going.
