Blackest Ever Black Prep Compilation

blackBlackest Ever Black are prepping the release of I Cant Give You the Life You Want, a compilation that’s served by Los Angeles as the background to the songs.  Perhaps it’s the environment of the city, or rather the response to the perceptions of the city that’s led the artists on this album (Cut Hands, Tropic of Cancer, Dalhous) to carefully craft their music, cloaked by the shadows beneath the city’s glam image.  I chose this track from Tarcar, which is broods beautifully, offering a softness that I’m really enjoying as I deliver into today.

Soliti Music Turns 2

soliti-turns-2-blue-640x634I’m really excited for my far away friend Nick and his wonderful label to be celebrating two successful years.  Soliti Music has brought us gems from Cats on Fire to The New Tigers to Big Wave Riders, and in honor of that celebration, the label is giving up an 8 track compilation of tunes that are either unreleased or demo versions.  They’ve even got a few words about each of the songs, which you can find HERE.  But, if you want to get your hands on some great tunes, or perhaps even discover your new favorite band, then click HERE.  For now, here’s my favorite track from the label.

New Tunes from Dead Gaze

1726I didn’t really know much about Dead Gaze when I got the press release, but then again, I guess I did.  Cole Furlow, the man behind the moniker, has been rubbing elbows with the likes of Dent May and Bass Drum of Death, not to mention releasing tons of hard to find 7″ and other various rarities. Luckily for us, Palmist is going to release a compilation of all that material on May 21st as a self-titled compilation.  I have a feeling that you’re all going to enjoy the music here, as it’s readily accessible, yet artfully crafted.  Probably my favorite jam of the day.

New Tune from Papercuts

Unless you’re living underneath a rock, you realize that San Francisco is probably one of the biggest scenes in the indie rock community.  Luckily for all of us outside the city, we can get our hands on the In a Cloud II compilation, featuring new unreleased tracks from a lot of great bands; the comp comes to us via Secret Seven Records on July 17th.  My personal favorite track from the comp is the one featured below by Papercuts, one of my favorite bands from San Francisco–check that, period. It’s got that chilled out vibe Jason’s known for, with a warm trickling melody that evolves slowly. There’s tons of great tracks on this collection, so be sure to Pre-Order it now.

New Jam from Fresh and Onlys

Earlier today P4K threw out this great new track from The Fresh and Onlys, which appears on a compilation (HERE) between the band’s new label Mexican Summer and Software.  While I completely dig the sound, it appears as if it’s going to end up a B-Side of sorts, being tossed aside for the band’s upcoming label.  Once again, you can see the band really progressing in their songwriting, eliminating a lot of the cacophony that was on earlier recordings.  I’m digging the chorus quite a bit, and if this is an outtake, there’s no telling how good the new album will be when it finally sees the light.
