Say Sue Me Drop 4 AM Single, Hit the US

Long have I championed Say Sue Me, and as they prepare to board for the U.S., the band have opted to drop a fresh single, courtesy of their label, Damnably. While I adored the band’s frantic guitar work on early tunes like “Old Town,” they’ve showed a trend towards a softer feel with later releases, allowing the melody to sort of levitate, hoping to find its home in your brain. There’s a fuzzy guitar underlying the track too, just giving off this wayward bit of rock n’ roll, wistfully drifting in and out, and I absolutely love that sound. They’ll have a quick North American jaunt starting in NYC on 11/13, and hitting Austin on 11/16, so be sure to be one of those in attendance, as they’re visits are hard to come by!

Say Sue Me Share Mind is Light + Tour the States

One of the many acts we’ve been introduced to by the kind folks over at Damnably is Say Sue Me; we’ve fawned over their LPs and their live sets for years, with more folks in the US able to catch them this week. In honor of their tour, they dropped another single last week while I was away, which I’ve now go below. I love how the song seems to combine two tracks into one; there’s a driving feel beneath, beating its own path while the distorted guitars rise to the surface, both letting the sublime vocals wash through the middle. Another reminder of how great the group is, and as if you needed more proof, they got James from Yo La Tengo to do the single artwork! Check out their US tour dates HERE; they kick off this week!

Hazy Sour Cherry Release Christmas Single

Having dropped the sparkling Strange World this past summer, Tokyo’s Hazy Sour Cherry share a brand new single just in time for the holidays. Sure, there’s the spiritual nod to Christmas (admittedly sans schmaltz), but you can almost excuse that, as the song feels more like a great introduction to the band’s playfulness. The riffs are sharp and uplifting, ringing in step with the dual vocal delivery that definitely feels like a family holiday singalong. It’s quick and snappy, and sets you up perfectly for the B-Side of the single, a wonderful cover of Dusty Springfield‘s “Stay Awhile.” It’s a great holiday season listen, all brought to you courtesy of Damnably Records.

Last Week’s Jams, Today (5.23 – 5.27)

Well, last week was a struggle. End of the school year, for two teachers, and well, then that other thing, so we barely got to the end of the week, let alone hit the musical stride with our usual fervor. So, our end of week wrap-up, which we give you at the beginning, is a little short. But, there’s new jams from great releases like R.E. Seraphin, Why Bonnie or Dehd, plus a rad new track off Hazy Sour Cherry‘s forthcoming LP for Damnably. And hey, you can never go wrong having a Tony Molina tune in there. So, here’s to one foot in front of the other with our favorite jams from last week.

Hazy Sour Cherry Announce Strange World

The good folks at Damnably have already brought us one incredible record this year from Say Sue Me, and they’re looking to tap into my bank account with a new record from Japan’s Hazy Sour Cherry. I got hooked by falling in love with Tsuzumi’s voice, which sounds like a modern Belinda Carlisle, albeit with a bit more punctuation and sharpness to it. There’s a lot of steady blending of surf notes and rolling thunder rhythm throughout, but if you can’t just let the emotional vibe wash atop you, then you’re missing out on this absolute powerhouse of a pop jam! The group will release Strange World on June 15th.

Say Sue Me Share No Real Place Single

South Korea’s Say Sue Me has written a lot of great tracks over the years, but for my ears, this might be one of the tops, if not THE top. I love the energetic roll in that begins immediately, with Sumi’s voice hitting you right away, speedily delivering the relatable lyrical content about missing someone. There’s this natural hook that’s superseding everything else around the song, but that doesn’t mean that the thumping drums or the dancing guitar work go unnoticed; it’s just hard to focus as you’re so seduced by the incessant joy jumping through your speakers. The band release The Last Thing Left this Friday via Damnably!

Say Sue Me Return with The Last Thing Left

It’s been a hot minute since we’ve gotten anything fresh from South Korea’s Say Sue Me, but today that all changes with the announcement of a brand new LP, the Last Thing Left. This first single comes with an incredible fun video, with characters utilizing imaginary objects throughout. As for the song, well its nothing short of sunny pop, something that hits all the right notes for a Spring hit. The band still employ catchy melodies, though I like how this tune seems to have a little more openness to it, letting the melody and the hook build in the ear of the listener. If this single’s anything to go by, and you look at Where We Were Together, we’re all in for a treat when The Last Thing Left drops on May 13th via Damnably.

Love The New Single from Say Sue Me

Where We Were Together played on my stereo for a good bit of this Spring…and luckily I was able to catch Say Sue Me in a quiet room during SXSW. Now, the Korean quartet are right back it with their brand new single for Damnably. For those that recall the jangling guitar pop, the A-side might give you a glimpse at a band forging their own ground. There’s something far more thoughtful in the presentation alone; the song expands near six minutes, with the front end of the track delivered in a casual pop manner. You can hear a slightly heavier sound in the distance of the song, but it doesn’t really kick in until just after the 3 minute mark, blasting off into some semi-Madchester zone. Look for this great song on the new 7″, out August 24th.
