Yea-Ming and the Rumors Announce So, Bird…

If you’re looking for a track to put in your pocket and take with you into the weekend, please please please take this track from Yea-Ming and the Rumors. This is the newest single from their forthcoming So, Bird LP, and damned if its not the charmer that just feels like it fits into this week’s vibe. There’s certainly a nostalgic mood in Yea-Ming’s vocals, shimmering with just a hint of smokiness that might fit in alongside the Crystals or the Ronettes. But, the musical style is more modern, pulling form a realm where psychedelia and dream pop mix in the musical pool. So, Bird will be out March 14th courtesy of Dandy Boy Records.

Sob Stories Announce New Album, Fair Shakes

Last we heard from Sob Stories, they were banging out a bunch of hooks on their eponymous EP, followed by a single here and there. Today, we’re stoked to let you know that you’re going to love rocking out to their new LP, Fair Shakes. Your first listen opens with a twisting guitar line before dropping you right into the stomping drive of punchy rock n’ roll; it’s forceful enough to give a nod to the snarling attitude of early punk, though sneaking into that chorus is where you find the hooks. The way that guitar sets up the melody feels like the band are channeling Tom Petty, though with a hard-hitting edge to them. Fair Shakes is going to be a solid LP, so be sure to grab it from Dandy Boy Records; it drops on March 14th.

New Music from So Cow

To be honest, I really want to post everything from this new So Cow record (though I don’t actually have it); I’d honestly post anything Brian Kelly was involved in at this point in time. There’s a brand new album titled Bisignis coming out via Dandy Boy Records, and well, I think your day is only going to get better after pressing play on these jams. I mean, I’d try to wrap it up in a nice little pigeonholed package, but I’m not sure that would do the sounds justice; I can hear elements of early Thermals, though there’s also tidbits of TV Personalities and maybe even hints at someone who was jamming to Rivers Cuomo at a young age…maybe that’s just me. Whatever. This Friday the whole LP drops, and it should be in your Bandcamp cart on Friday.

Smile Too Much Share What I Want You To Do (So Do)

We’re already looking ahead towards Friday, and with that in mind, we’ve got a release on Friday from Smile Too Much that I’d like you to keep on your radar. The lead single has the best juxtaposition you could ask for, combining a strong mix of fuzzed out gazing-guitars matched up with the calmed bubblegum pop of Maggie Aytac (ex-Heartlights) voice. I love the guitar line that seems to kind of weave its own story amid the contrasting imagery of the song, serving as this alternative lifeblood to the song’s middle section. If you like what’re you’re hearing from the Oakland outfit, look for their debut self-titled EP via Dandy Boy Records.

Dandy Boy Records Release Television Personalities Tribute Comp

Despite a horrible toll on our souls and families, there have been some minimal bright spots in the art world, like friends working together to organize compilations. Last week Dandy Boy Records dropped this incredible Television Personalities Tribute. Not only does the album pay homage to one of my favorite bands, but its filled with artists we’ve covered countless times. As I write this I’m jamming to Jeanines cover “Jackanory Story,” but of course it never hurts to hear the “Silly Girl” cover by Friendless Summer. Plus, you get our friend RE Seraphin, So Cow, and Odd Hope (recent single via Slumberland Records). I could go on and on with all the great tunes, or I could just leave Mummy Mummy Please Look at Me below for you to enjoy today!
