The great Stephen Malkmus and his band The Jicks just laid down an awesome Daytrotter session. The band records a 4 song session featuring a cover of the James Gang funk track “Funk 49” that really cooks. Check out the full session and the website’s new layout now.

Daytrotter continues to pump out solid in-studios with a set by Delta Spirit that dropped last week. The band plays 4 new songs all of which have never been laid to tape. Check it out now.

Dappled Cities hail from the Down Under, that being the case, they aren’t too well-known in these parts, which is entirely shameful. They’ve created an album full of lush arrangements, freckled with bit of pop-perfect melodies. Their sound is reminiscent of a lot of the early OOs indie bands, such as The Glands, crafting varying elements of sound and atmospherics beneath infectious moments of brilliance. You can tell the band has more great things to offer, especially if you check out their stop off on the Daytrotter.
The band will be playing at The Ranch (708 West 6th Street) on Thursday, March 19 at 8 PM.

The Spinto Band made an appearance on the now famous Daytrotter website today. The band performs 3 older songs and a sweet unreleased version of “Give me Just a Little More Time”. Stream/download the awesome in studio now.

One of our favorite bands who we haven’t heard much about recently, Koufax, just recorded a 3 song Daytrotter session. Head over to the Daytrotter site to download/stream all the songs. We’ve also got “Roll the Dice” which appeared on the band’s 2008 release Strugglers. Horray Koufax!

Dance/pop outfit Chairlift recently recorded a 4 song Daytrotter session that you can download or stream online. The 4 song set features 3 old tunes and one previously unreleased track. Here’s “Bruises” (that song from the ipod commercial) performed live in the Daytrotter studio.

How many of you remember that Ben Kweller has a new album, Changing Horses, due out next month? It seems like Mr. Kweller generally flies right under the radar so buzz about his new album has sort of faded. Regardless, you can hear some new tunes from the album on his recent Daytrotter performance. He plays 3 songs from his upcoming LP and one from On My Own. Here’s a taste of the new country sounding album with “Wanting Her Again” live on Daytrotter.
