Enjoy This Track from SWOLL

Matt Dowling has done his due diligence in the DC indie scene, playing in the EFFECTS and Deleted Scenes. But, he’s out on his own now with his new project SWOLL; it’s an electronically driven sound that charms, at least on this, the ‘most lighthearted’ track on the record. I love how the programmed percussion builds, with the the repeated vocal of “I’m taking” aiding in that. Then the guitars drop in, the vocals rise and you’re charmed immediately. But, the joy in this track really comes when the female accompanying voice joins up with Dowling to really round out the pop sensation. A promising entry from the self-titled debut, out March 9th via Blight Records.

Careful Electro-Pop from Standish/Carlyon

SC_PURPLE_1SQ-300x300Standish/Carlyon are one of the newest acts to sign on with our friends Chapter Music over in Australia, though the US release comes via Felte Sounds.  This is the second single from the duo’s upcoming Deleted Scenes LP, demonstrating how electro-pop can unfold before you when it’s created so delicately.  Just as you think the track can explode, it calms back down just as quickly, like one of those waves you think you’ll catch before it fades away into the ocean.  I’m thinking a lot of people are going to be interested in what this band has to offer us all in 2013, don’t you agree?

Show Preview: A Lull @ Mohawk (1/30)

Date Monday, January 30th
Location Mohawk
Doors 800 pm
Tickets $10 from the Door

As the music season starts to head into full-steam here at the end of January, the Mohawk has a nice little show to offer you this Monday evening: A Lull.  The constructionist pop outfit is bring their excellent effort, Confetti, to the live setting for all of you to enjoy, and I promise you that the band’s got a great deal to give in the live setting.  It’s similar to the work Animal Collective has done, just a lot less spastic, and a touch more sentimental. Opening the show will be Deleted Scenes and Tape Deck Mountain, so get there early to enjoy all the musical tastiness.

New Music from Deleted Scenes

Probably one of the most interesting things, at least in my historical view of music, is that Deleted Scenes are an indie group from Washington D.C.  According to their bio, they maintain the cities DIY ethics, but apart from that, they share little else with the city.  Their tracks are down-tempo, employing various textures in each song, creating an overwhelmingly clever pop collage.  Their new record, Young People’s Church of the Air, is being released this September, and if this track is any indicator, I anticipate various outlets reporting on this group, continuing their rise to stardom.

LA Snack @ Club de Ville (6/13)

lakicksOur friends over at Party Ends have a sweet show planned for Saturday night at Club de Ville here in Austin.  The all local lineup includes up and comers LA Snacks, Deleted Scenes, Loxsly and a DJ set by John Gross.  Show starts at 9pm.  This should be a cheap way to get your live music fix on an otherwise boring Saturday night.
