Took a few days off to run up and see some Oklahomies, so since I’ve been back, I’ve kind of hit my stride with the rock n’ roll groove. I wanted to give you something a little more chilled out to close your Tuesday listening with ATH. Toronto’s Fresh Snow have released this single, featuring vocals by Carmen of DIANA. It’s an interesting musical journey, sort of a patchwork of rhythms and electronic touches, coated in Carmen’s angelic vocals from time to time. The group will be releasing Won via Hand Drawn Dracula on September 11th, so keep your eyes peeled for their dose of experimental pop.

Feel like going all over the place musically today, so it’s fitting that this new tune from Beta Frontiers came our way yesterday. The tune’s predominantly the work of Michael Butler who works on production duties at his home in Toronto. But, he found the perfect voice to fit this latest track with Carmen Elle, who also works in DIANA. The light-hearted number sits well in her vocal range, making the song a sure-fire hit. This single will be released on May 6th via Buzz Records, who’ve already had a nice hit this year with Odonis Odonis.

I really enjoy the nights when I can double up shows. A positive of the noise ordinance regulations is that the outdoor shows at Stubb’s and The Mohawk finish early enough to head over to another venue to do more shimmying. We already shared show notes and pics from Dent May, now we have some Austra love.
This ended up being a very photogenic show. DIANA was a pleasant surprise and the light show and ever-improving stage presence of Katie Stelmanis made Austra a true headliner.

We last saw Austra opening for The XX at ACL Live. Their set kind of took us by surprise. Gone were the headdress veils and theatrical makeup, replaced by genuine interaction ans a strong presence from front-woman Katie Stelmanis. That and her really locked down vocal; I am looking forward to hearing new tracks from the new album Olympia come to life.
I expect more of the same tonight, so join me before I head over the Red7 for Dent May. Double up. Diana opens.
You can hear the latest single “Home” that is very grounded and a little less digital, if you will, by clicking here, but I’m gonna give you my fave jam to get you in the mood…
