Divino Nino Share Maria

Three out of four folks working on this site at one time studied Spanish or lived in Spanish speaking countries, so you could say it runs through out site. This track from Divino Nino is sung entirely in Spanish, though I don’t think that really detracts from non-speakers. It all begins with this casual strum, aided by a sort of keyboard wash in the background. When the vocals come through, I loved the way the syllables were sort of drawn out to match the speed of the strummed guitar; and then came the light little textural arrangements that brought the song to life. Que hermosa! The band will release Foam on June 21st via Winspear.

Dreamy Swing Pop from Divino Nino

divinoBy now, you should be paying attention to what Native Sound is doing. They’re a new-is label, but they’ve got a pretty solid roster, including Divino Nino. The band has this dreamy swing feel to it, though not with a dance hall attitude…more like that weird kid dancing in the club by him/herself. The group has some Hispanic influences, so you can hear a little bit of tropicalia leaking into their sound, though you’ll also be really into it if you imagine Little Joy getting into a fistfight with Mac Demarco. This track will appear on the band’s new album, The Shady Sexyfornia Tapes, which will be released on May 13th.

Soulful Pop Vibes from Divino Nino

3-Panel_JCard_FRONT_AIRemember those early Little Joy or Rodrigo Amarante tunes that seemed to dance around nostalgic tropicalia, but with a fresher tone? That’s exactly what I hear in the newest single from Divino Nino, who also have some Latin roots to add…thus the band name. It sounds a lot like a really hip lounge singer who spends his weekends hanging about town playing in a psychedelic band; there’s just little doses of reverb and twangy wash, but not enough to detract from the central focus. Look for the group’s new album, The Shady Sexyfornia Tapes, which comes out on May 13th via The Native Sound.
