Ribbon Stage Share Playing Possum Video

Ok, so this Ribbon Stage tune’s been out for a few damned days, and I’m super late to it. But, if ever something felt like the natural connection between modern DIY and Sarah Records, I feel like its surely gotta be this New York outfit. At times, the video simply feels playful, like your best friends made it in their spare time between inside jokes and cigarette breaks. Still, there’s this natural infectiousness, an almost sure-fire sweetness that has you circling back for more and more. Not to mention, is that a Shop Assistants reference in the album artwork for Hit with the Most!? The group will release the LP in October via K Records.

Ferocious New Tune From Tummyache

This time two years ago, I was introduced to the delightful Amarillo born Soren Bryce and her musical project known simply as tummyache. Though Bryce hadn’t planned to make much music during lockdown, the creative bug hit and she powered through some new tunes in parents backyard shed. We are of course happy to share & premiere with you the first new tune from these efforts entitled “DIY!!”. You will immediately notice the raucous and urgency to the tune as it powers through a short 1.5 minute explosion of screaming vocals and frantic instrumentation. Once again, I think it shows a songwriter who can dip into so many different genres and refuses to be put in a musical cage.

Fun Track From The Beekeepers

It’s Monday morning and Nathan and I are bummed out to be fully back to work starting tomorrow. As bummed as we may be, we can always try to bolster our moods with some fun, energetic, easy to get into music. Imagine that, my new friends in Portland, New York based The Beekeepers just sent over this new song called “Endless Spiral Notebooks”. It’s a fun, yet simple song full of swirling organs and an overall DIY approach to songwriting. It’s a fresh track for a Monday morning. Enjoy.

ATX Spotlight: First Names

As much as we love sharing news of national/international bands, there’s nothing quite like the discovery of even more local talent. Today I’m pumped to share with you the premiere single “City Buses” from Austin, TX based outfit First Names. This one is going to be for those of you who like garage rock sounds with heavily distorted guitars, banging drums, and softer vocals. Bottom line, it shows a lot of promise for these young upstarts in our little city. Carry on.

New Compilation from Martin Newell

Around these parts, and by that I mean, me and my friends, the name Martin Newell means a great deal…as one of the core members of Cleaners from Venus, that should mean a great deal to you as well. His career has spanned over several decades, but we got wind yesterday of a new release titled Martin Newell’s Jumble Sale, a collection of lost songs and demos from 1975 to present; their existence alone is reason for rejoicing. Just to have a DIY career span that long, and still have people caring is important…so stream this collection and revel in the joy that is anything with Martin’s name attached to it.

True Gem From Matt Rock

screen-shot-2015-08-16-at-6-34-11-pmI’ll be honest here, I love this damn song.  Something about the almost Queen like quality mixed with heavy, fuzzed out guitars has created a truly powerful and intense song.  Coming from London based Matt Rock, this track for you today is called “Gimme a Sign”.  I hope all you fan boys out there enjoy it just as much as I have today.

Matt Rock will release Get Blank on October 16th.

New Indie Pop from Sleeping Policemen

As a person working on getting my own label up and running, I always admire the DIY efforts, especially for small groups like Eardrumspop.  The label has just uploaded their newest single, featuring several gems from German group, Sleeping Policemen.  For me, the big hit of the single is “First Things First,” where the vocals go back and forth between the male and female vocalists, crafting this quick gem that I’ve been jamming to all afternoon.  I have a feeling you indie pop fans are going to scramble to grab this single…but remember to support the artists who’ve crafted such great songs.
