_Linden Sets Up New LP with Slumberland Records

lindenSome labels get diagnosed with certain genres, and I’m sure I’m guilty when it comes to that sort of thought process with Slumberland Records.  However, some label owners, like the aforementioned, just want to give you great records, no matter the genre.  This is where _Linden fits into the catalog of Slumberland, providing listeners with the purest of pop.  The latest single from the band holds tight to a great melody, working around some spectacular guitar work; it doesn’t hurt that one Edwyn Collins handled some of the production duties here.  Great music supersedes genres and fans, permeating the ears and hearts of all, which is what I expect Rest and Be Thankful to do when it’s released on June 23rd.

Soft Number from Edwyn Collins

Edwyn CollinsI think I’d probably put Edwyn Collins in my Top 5 of all time songwriters.  His work with Orange Juice impacted a lot of my listening habits, past and present. So, his 2005 struggles with multiple strokes was quite sad, but listening to his road back has really been something quite special.  This year, a documentary came to light called The Possibilities are Endless, concerning Edwyn’s road back.  He’s been fortunate enough to be able to write music again, thus his ability to craft this tune, which is part of the soundtrack to the documentary; it’s available via AED.

New Music from Wide Sea

Wide Sea is a German transplant four piece currently living it up in London.  They first caught my ear when I was following Edwyn Collins label, AED, seeing as he’s one of my favorite all-time songwriters.  The band is just now releasing their debut record A Place to Call Home, and while it might not harken precisely back to the work of Edwyn and OJ, it still has a huge bit of mass appeal.  The title track begins steady and soft, with a gentle swing to it that kicks in almost immediately.  For me, these are the sort of songs I always fall in love with, which is probably going to be the case once I spend more time with this album.

New Music from Comet Gain

I’ve known this project was in the works for some time, and I’m super excited to bring you all new tunes from one of my most beloved bands, Comet Gain.  You’ll find this new tune, as well as twelve others, on their latest effort, Howl of the Lonely Crowd, which will be released in the US on October 4th by the incredible folks over at What’s Your Rupture.  In my mind, this is one of the most under-appreciated bands in the whole world, as they always have infectious tunes.  Perhaps the fact that Edwyn Collins from OJ helped produce this record will give the group the extra push it needs to be the next big thing in indie pop.  If you love this, and realize you’ve been wrong by ignoring this band for so long, I suggest you go to Whats Your Rupture and order Broken Record Prayers (their last LP) or Cinema Red and Blue (a hot joint featuring Comet Gain and Crystal Stilts members).
