Spain Indie Labels Start Music for Gloves

Two things I love, Spanish indie labels, and a really great cause. Over in Spain, a bunch of the independent labels (like Bobo Integral and Meritorio) got together and gathered some rare and new tunes, put them all together, and are now releasing it under the title Music For Gloves. Each label has offered up some rarities in an attempt to raise funds to buy gloves for the hospitals on the frontline of this pandemic. I know we’ve got friends all over the world, so if this is of interest, this a great place to listen to new music and help raise funds. Here’s a new demo from my favorites, El Palacio de Linares.

The Year in Indiepop…According to Nathan

As we’re all looking back on the year 2019, I tend to gravitate towards lists with little agenda, other than to shine a light back on the year in the areas I adore. For one, the indiepop scene. Now, there’s always a great big debate about what indie pop is, so for all intents and purposes, I admit that I just don’t care, so the genre’s purists can yell at me later. Now, this may read as a best of, but merely this is the stuff that stuck out in my brain, so if I missed something, I love you and I’m sorry. Honestly, it just gave me a chance to make a fun playlist (2+ hours!) full of hits for all you pop fans.

Albums of the Year…So Far…according to Nathan

It’s super-hard to really nail down your favorite albums, especially when its only July and the whole thing seems pretty arbitrary, to put it lightly. But, like all your favorite sites, hits matter; they make you feel cool. So, I have concocted my own list of the Best Albums of 2019…so far. This in no way is a representation of the whole of the site contributors, and merely exists as poor commentary by a blogger with too much time on his hands. Enjoy!

Escuchen a El Palacio de Linares

In shitty times we turn to music; it cures us in ways other things cannot. I’m in the midst of one such week, and the only solace I’m finding are in this song or that song. But, the past few days have been spent putting this new LP from El Palacio de Linares on repeat. There’s spritely indiepop gems like “Piscinas Naturales” or “Pez Espada,” but admittedly, I keep coming back to the ridiculously beautiful “Ciervo y Erizo.” Something about the melody mixed with the song’s natural bounce before spinning into the dreamy chorus is probably going to bring tears to my eyes as I play it again and again today. Love your indiepop? Want to listen in Spanish? Please support this band; Largos Agotadores is out today via Pretty Olivia Records!

Another Indiepop Gem from El Palacio de Linares

I spent the entirety of this holiday break hanging with old friends and kicking it with my baby daughter; I want those vibes to continue before I have to think about the rest of the world. The best way for me to escape is with some light-hearted indiepop to start off the work-week, so I’m bringing you another gem from El Palacio de Linares. For me, though I speak Spanish, it’s great to have this emotional attachment to the light jangling guitar work first, before working back to translate the lyrics; I think you’ll catch the same sentiment just by spending a quick couple of minutes with this tune. If you love it, keep an eye out, as the band will drop their new LP, Largos Agotadores, via Pretty Olivia Records in early 2019.

Poppy Number from El Palacio de Linares

I’m always trying to keep up with the great Spanish indiepop scene, but as soon as I’m charmed, someone else pops up with something brilliant that puts me right where I started. This joyful tune from El Palacio de Linares is winning Friday for me; it has this solid harmony hiding in the shades of some jittery guitar shuffling. Plus, the whole song is about and a deer and a hedgehog, or so says the title, so why wouldn’t I be won over? You’ll be able to find this tune on Largos Agotadores, the newest LP out in early 2019 on Pretty Olivia Records.
