Brian Jonestown Massacre @ Emo’s 4/14

bjm_logoIt’s hard to guess precisely what sort of show you’ll get when you go watch BJM, but let’s face it, that’s sort of the fun in the whole thing right? Despite their somewhat unsettling antics, as seen in DIG, the band have still crafted some solid songs over the last decade or so, and you’ll be sure to enjoy such songs when they play tonight at Emo’s. Tickets are still available, so grab one and catch an exciting show.

Built By Snow @ Emo’s (4/9)

bbs-april9th_posterMake your way to Emo’s on Thursday night for a nice local lineup of promising and upcoming bands.  Things get started at 10pm with ATH friends Whitman so get there early and start drinking cheap tall boys.  Fellow ATH favorites The Bubbles, Red X Red M, and headliners Built by Snow follow on the bill.  Tickets will be sold at the door for $8, but if you RSVP at Do512, you’ll get in for only $5.  Working on Friday is no excuse not to be there, it’s a holiday (for some of us).

SXSW Top 10 Live Acts

sxsw_liveacts_coverIs anyone else just a little bit sad today as we wrap up another amazing SXSW Festival in Austin? I know we here at ATH are as depressed as anyone to head back into the real world today. Gone are the carefree days of roaming around downtown in search of the best music and the best parties with free red bull and vodka. While still nursing our hangovers and mending our bruises, we would like to share with you the best live acts that we caught this past week. You may have heard of most of these bands or they may be completely new to you, but regardless, these bands brought the noise at SXSW. We tried to be fair and pick the acts that either lived up to a certain hype or just rocked our faces to the floor.  Follow the jump for our top 10 live acts of SXSW.

Tim Barry @ Emos (3/10)

tim Frontman for punkers Avail, Tim Barry, is making his way to Austin this Tuesday night.  He’ll be doing his folkier side of things, but that won’t make it any less punk rock, as those who caught his set at Fun Fun Fun Fest can attest.  His charm will win you over in a minute, and his songs will win you over the next.  Also on the bill is Austin Lucas, who made waves earlier this year with his joint venture with Chuck Ragan. The show is at Emos, with tickets costing a recession proof $8.  Doors are at 8 PM and show starts at 10 Pm.

New Tunes From The Great Nostalgic

greatnostGreat Nostalgic are a band that we’ve been excited about after we first caught them live during free week at Emo’s. Much to our excitement, the Austin band is finally ready to drop a proper LP your way and we promise it’s going to be one of the year’s best. We’ve got a sneak preview of the new LP with exclusive track “The Kingdom” which should get some buzz going about the effort. The band’s self-titled debut album is available now at local record stores like Waterloo and End of an Ear.

Delta Spirit @ Emo’s Show Review

other

Saturday night was probably not the most enjoyable evening on which to catch a show, as it was freezing cold here in Austin, but many brave souls opted to push through the wintry weather in pursuit of a good evening of music.  Those in attendance were able to catch Dawes, Other Lives and Delta Spirit honing their skills on stage. Here are our thoughts on the evening.
