Sleeper’s Bell Enchant With Corner

Chicago based Sleeper’s Bell just shared this enchanting new track called “Corner” and I absolutely had to share it with you all today. The song is a slow building, crooner of a dreamy, folk genre with lovely vocals from both Blaine Teppema and guest vocalist Leo Peterniti. My only complaint is I wish it went on for longer so I could stay in the moment with the band all day.

This track is part of an expanded EP entitled Umarell, which is available to purchase now via Fire Talk Records.

New Double Single From Omat

New York City based indie label Fire Talk has long been one of our favorite sources for new and upcoming bands both in the NYC area and throughout the country. Over the last year or so, the label has been dropping a ton of new and unreleased tracks from bands not necessarily on their main outlet via the imprint Open Tab. You can spend your day checking out all those tunes, but also put some heavy focus on these two new ones from the Brooklyn based band OMAT. Both have a heavier focus with a sort of post-grunge inspiration and straight badass vocals from leading lady Dharma Ramirez. Dig it.

Stunning Single from Wombo

I have to own up to putting Wombo in a very specific box, while admittedly adoring the contents of that box. But, their new single is so striking and offers a glimpse at where the band might go in the future after the release of their Slab EP on Friday. For starters, the song’s percussive element is unsettling in a manner; it’s almost like a rhythmic mantra running the same beats to leave this vast expanse out their for Sydney’s vocals. On Fairy Rust, her voice took on the very in-fashion indifferent approach, sort of spoken delivery. Here, however, the song just shimmers and shines, churning out this dreamy melody that seduces you through every second, while also bringing up this magical fragility. The Slab EP is brought to us courtesy of Fire Talk.

Cola Share Keys Down If You Stay

Part of me wanted to ignore this new Cola tune, as I was frustrated by certain cut and paste tactics running amok in the “industry,” but ultimately, I’ve been a pretty avid Tim Darcy fan, so I couldn’t imagine just packing it all up and ignoring it. I mean, how can one ignore the deliciousness of those angular guitar cuts? Even with the sharpness, the song’s melodic core doesn’t ever seem far away, gradually radiating this natural coziness. It’s nice to hear Darcy toying with his delivery, as per usual, holding back on various syllables to see if he can catch you singing along; I can even hear some of his more frantic tendencies in the song’s later moments, albeit, subdued just a bit. Try it on, and thanks to Fire Talk for keeping this band going!

Hydrodate Share Early Reflections

I’ve come to realize that I’ve always been a bit of a pop fan, and as much as I’ve tried to deny that, it’s always come back to the fact that I can’t steer clear of hooks. That said, I’ve grown to love searching for those hooks in distorted realms, built on textured guitars and heavy atmospherics, much like the world Hydrodate have crafted on their latest single. For all intents and purposes, this is just a casual ballad, buoyed by dual vocals playing off one another. Still, the cavernous world the band create is filled with billowing guitar noise and begging for me to get lost in their little noisy fantasy world. I’m wiling to dive further in today, so you can join me by pressing play. Single released courtesy of Fire Talk/Open Tab.

Packs Share Abalone Video

The last time I caught Packs was when they blew through Austin with Good Morning; we all shared the legendary Armadelo, though that footage sadly didn’t make it into the band’s new video. This track, a brand new single for Fire Talk/Royal Mountain, features the group’s knack for weaving these slow-burning riffs that snake through your speakers, with little background nuances sliding into the fray to bring in the full-band effect following their stripped down Woah EP. Definitely excited to see what’s in store for the group going forward, as they’ve clearly had a productive season, which sounds like its already paying dividends.

Blood Return with Self Improvement Single

After delivering their rad Bye Bye EP, former Austin outfit Blood return with this rad new single to satiate your needs. This tune plays upon the group’s ability to reign in the cacophony of feuding noise and bringing it to a driving center, flirting with just the barest hint of melody. Like the song, the video encompasses the frantic nature, with images and clips overlapping and growing on your screen, matching the musical eruptions spewing forth from the group’s amps. Clearly their move to Philly is paying off as the band now have the backing of Fire Talk on their new single; hard work pays off kids.

Blunt Chunks Share Wasted

After a busy and hot weekend in Austin, I’m looking to relax a bit and slowly ease into the week ahead. This tune from Caitlin Woelfle-O’Brien, otherwise known as Blunt Chunks, is the perfect sort of soft, mellow and intimate song I am needing this morning. It features a lovely, whispy vocal performance along with some country/folk inspired bass lines throughout. A lovely tune to kick off your week.

This single is part of the new Open Tab series from Fire Talk. You can hear more and read more about the series on the Open Tab landing page.

The Dare Share Girls

As previously mentioned, I’m in a hyper-dance/pop mode today, trying to ramp myself up, energetically. Luckily, Fire Talk continue their Open Tab project with this hook-laden jam from The Dare. As soon as you press play you’re going to immediately recall that early 00s era of NYC, with acts like the Rapture or !!! and LCD; it’s a club banger, albeit one with some interesting lyrical content. I just want to turn it up real loud and bounce around my room right now until I’ve spent all this energy from my two cups of coffee!

Mamalarky Announce Pocket Fantasy

This snuck out yesterday, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t get behind this album announcement from Mamalarky. The band are constantly working, and it seems like that has led to a track that kind of unloads all the pressure of writing and recording by blasting out a joyous burst. Livvy’s riff work has this angular choppiness that feels like jumping about in your room, while the chorus just radiates an exhilarated bunch. You can see they’ve locked into that joy in the video as well, as the group are at their playful best throughout! If you’re digging it, Pocket Fantasy is out September 30th via Fire Talk.
