Get Your Country Blues On(ish) with Futurebirds

11779933_10153498714762937_7725662846396782883_oWe’re not known to usually post a lot of country type of tunes, so don’t you fret, this track still has plenty of alternative influence to satisfy your modern hipster heart. Futurebirds are on the brink of releasing their latest album, Hotel Parties, on September 25th, and they’ve got a taste of what’s to come from that release below. “Deadbeat Hits” is a twangified and bluesy little number that pushes your boundaries a bit as far as indie rock goes. The instrumentation seems fairly straightforward at first listen, but that guitar riff that floats above the rest in the beginning of the track hints at the underlying alternative country flair the tune takes. Soon, the vocals reveal more of this side, and you’re fully immersed in the encompassing blend of indie rock and blues that the band has. Check out Hotel Parties on September 25th via Easy Sound Recording Company.

So you aren’t going to the dance party at ACL Live with Empire of the Sun? (Plug for IT Dept. Summer playlist) How about something completely different?

Sure, Futurebirds are headlining, but damn, what an undercard with buzz-band Diarrhea Planet and locals The Midgetmen. I am going to set you up with a pair of songs to listen to to get your money spent in the stairwell and a stamp put on your hand. My favorite is the smiley face.

First up, a lovely piece by Futurebirds from a couple years back.

New Song from Futurebirds

You’ve got to love a song that relies upon sweeping group harmonies to get its point across.  This new track from the Futurebirds will be features on their Futurebirds EP that comes out next week on Autumntone.  Oddly, this track really feels like it epitomizes those waning feelings of summer as you move into the autumnal season.  Listening to this over and over just sort of leaves me hanging my thoughts in the clouds. Perhaps it’s the perfect time for escapism, and “Dirty D” does its job wonderfully. [audio:]

Futurebirds On Hear Ya

Hearya continues to put out some nice sessions on their live video blog this week with a set from folk rock band Futurebirds.  We just missed out on seeing this group when they came to town a week ago so we’re happy to get a taste of what they’re like live.  The live session features four MP3s, a couple videos and even the option to download the whole thing as one big file.  I’ve been enjoying this sweet live version of “Ski Chalet” which you can find below.
