SxSW 2017: ATH vs SOTO Party Pics

Who is ready to relive the greatest day of music ever assembled by John Laird and Nathan Lankford? Ever.

The jams were copious as were the tender moments. The showcase highlighted the talent in Austin with bands watching bands that shuffled up to be other bands. We had international celebrities in attendance, as well as every familiar face possible. I took photos, some with an Instax. We ate sausage wraps and drank beaverages. It was perfect air for a whisky.

Buy Growl’s New Album, Won’t You

The longer I run ATH Records, the more proud I am of the work we’ve done. It seems like each release makes me happier, and I’m not sure if it’s because we’re putting out better records (I love them all) or if I’m just happy with the work. Regardless, we are really really really excited for the new Growl LP, Won’t You. It’s a great little album filled with guitar pop hits that are built for endurance. It’s likely to be the album that makes you happiest in the Spring and plays at all your pool parties during the Summer; you’ll likely be so stuck that it’ll be in heavy rotation from there on out. So, why not listen to the band’s latest single, the title track from this great new LP. Order it from us or look for it on April 7th.

Did You Hear That New Growl

Earlier this week we were glad to see that Gold Flake Paint ran a short bit on Growl, one of the next LPs we’ll be releasing on ATH Records. It’s the blissed out guitar pop I’ve come to love, like a less formulaic Teenage Fanclub…now with more hooks than ever! They’ve earned raves from locals for some time, and we hope the rest of the folks start to take notice with the release of Won’t You on April 7th! If you’re interested, you can grab the LP directly from us at the Bandcamp or wait for the band to come to a city near you this Spring!

Plus, Shivery Shakes are working on a new record, which means you get to hear the band try out new tunes tonight! They’ll be joined by Dryspell and Deep State, making it an all around night of hits! ATX Spotlight: Pleased to Meet You, Daphne

I’m clearly a big fan of Santiago, who writes tracks for Growl and Rain Collectors, but he’s been quietly working on a new project, Daphne. Today, he shared a video of himself playing one of these delightful new tracks. Aside from the quality of the video, I’m partial to hearing Santiago’s voice with it’s little vocal inflections as he chases after higher notes. No word on a release in the long run, but why not just be grateful we’ve got more great music from one of Austin’s best.

athshowFrom time to time, we hereat the ATH like to put on shows for you all in Austin, and it just so happens we have couple of gigs lined up this week, with our first coming tonight at Mohawk following the Anthony Green set. We’ve recently agreed to work with Pollen Rx on their debut full-length, Sunshine Emptiness, so if you’ve yet to check them out, tonight’s a good time. Growl, one of our long time favorites, return to the stage after taking a few months off to wrap up their own album and work on some other projects…never an act to miss. Plus, Roaring Sun get the headline spot, with these youngsters grabbing our attention with their recent hard work and rad new songs, like the one below.

Video Premiere: Summer Salt

It’s been a pretty special year for Summer Salt, booking a couple of great tours and releasing their Going Native EP recently with us here at ATH Records. They just tossed us us this great video for the track, “Summer Salt,” and the video encompasses everything I love about the band, aside from the fact that it’s just a hands-down, great song. This three-o are all about crafting really incredible melodies, but they’re also about enjoying themselves. You can see their tight-knit attitude in the video, yet it also shows they’re goofy side. They’re out there playing the songs they love, willing to have fun with each other in a style that’s endearing to all. If you haven’t gotten into the band yet…well, what are you waiting for? Still a few copies of their Going Native EP available HERE.

And, if you’re in the Austin area, they have an incredible show with some of our other faves, Growl and Flesh Lights. Read more on it HERE.

Blasting Rock from Frail

12472803_1674740646109481_2095567835399816333_nTell your ears to hold on, the distortion level runs high with Frail. But, that being said you’re likely to fall in love with the band’s blend of melody and heavy riffs. There’s some resemblance to Teenage Fanclub (or Growl if you’re in Austin), though these guys play a bit louder, and perhaps a bit more youthful. Sounds like they just want to turn their guitars up as loud as possible and invite you have a bit of fun with them. This tune appears on the band’s forthcoming debut EP, which will be released on May 13th via Fleeting Youth Records.

New Single from Austin’s Growl

growlFor years I’ve followed the path of local boys, Growl. They’ve been writing super-infectious guitar pop songs since their inception, and while they’re in the studio working on a new album, they’ve just given us all a glimpse of what’s to come in the near future. Fighting guitar chords, crashing drums and Santi’s captivating voice. It’s too late to call these guys a buzz-Austin band, as they’re just continuing what they’ve always done best. We’ll keep you posted on forthcoming album news.

ATX Spotlight: New Single From Growl

18103_564818663621073_9117292441382477635_nLocals Growl and their guitar driven rock have been on our radar for some time, so we’re pleased to see the band releasing a new single. This new song, “Overnight,” shows the band really meshing together, layering each element precisely to make a great garage rock song. It’s an even-tempered jam, not coming in too hot, but slowly simmering into a smooth rumble. Word on the street is that the band is prepping to release a new full length sometime this year… so get excited for that.
