Some More Free Week Pics…

I still love Free Week. Went out and about again and saw a whole different set of random people. I learned a friend’s girlfriend’s dad goes by the name Bush Pounder. I learned a kind soul was leaving us for Puerto Rico, but would be returning for fests and touring gigs. Little known fact, flights to cities in the US from Austin are about the same as flights from Puerto Rico.

It was a whole different set of bands and a different chunk of venues. Here is the rundown: Empire to see out friends in Bali Yaaah and Hours Quiet, Barracuda for Midriff, ATH Records’ Pollen RX, Stiletto Feels, Otis The Destroyer and Flesh Lights with a quick jaunt to Swan Dive to see what Casey Beans was all about as a solo thing.

ATX Spotlights: New UVH and Jess Williamson

jessIt’s a busy week here in Austin, with various releases and some festival in town. So, don’t get lost in the weeds, as we’ve got a few updates for you!

First, UVH ran a song with over at SOTO for their upcoming release with GTZ Records. This track’s got singer Larry growling atop these huge indie rock riffs. We’re really stoked on everything he’s done.

Then, perennial fanboys are we, especially when it comes to Jess Williamson. So, of course we’re going to give her new song coverage. Her new album Heart Song comes out on November 4th, ready to move us all again.

Cheer Ups Show Tonight and UVH Single Premiere!

cheerupsshowWe’re really stoked to be supporting the great bill tonight at Cheer Up Charlies with our friends from GTZ Records and On the Rocks Premium Cocktails. The bill features a slew of heavy-hitters like Hikes, Flesh Lights, Gloves INTL, Shmu, Stiletto Feels, Whit and UVH…you can find set times to the show HERE. But, even more importantly, we can all gather and celebrate the release of the new UVH single that we’re premiering below. I’ve loved hearing the band, since their early line-up as Twin Bitches, but the work in this song demonstrates perfectly just why so few try to pull of classic indie rock sounds…if you’re not going to sound as good as this, why try at all. There’s a bit of a guttural growl in the vocals, while thechords are angularly plucked andthe band stomps it all out. This song will appear on the forthcoming EP from the group…released soon under GTZ Records. See everyone tonight!

Stiletto Feels Release Video

stilettofeels-1A week ago we dropped our Top Austin Albums, and one of the surprises was the debut from Stiletto Feels, The Big Fist. We had high expectations for Geoff Earle’s new project, but I honestly didn’t expect such a finished project. It’s a listen filled with all sorts of touches, be they electronic or indie rock…or even just great riffs. This week the band have unleashed their video for the super-hit, “Steel Your Guitar,” which is like a smoothed out R&B rock n’ roll jam. Check out the video below and grab the LP from GTZ Records.

ATH Premiere: Meet Stiletto Feels

stilettofeels-1We here at ATH have long been fans of the craftsmanship of Geoff Earle, formerly of Freshmillions, who now has a brand new project we’d like to introduce you to (and a new record label-GTZ): Stiletto Feels. I’ve been listening to this track quite a bit since Geoff passed it our way; it’s like a blend of Ratatat and MSTRKFT, but with a really smooth soul vocal added to it. You can groove or you can dance, but you’re going to fall in love. It’s going to be the first release for Earle’s new label, GTZ Records, who will be celebrating with a nice Single Release Party on Saturday night over at Empire Control Room. Get into the song below.
