Austin Spotlight: Brand New Grape St. Track!!!

10606255_811918515519334_6116597443649835805_nAs you know, we’ve long been supporters of Grape St., the band fronted by Curtis O’Mara of Harlem.  We love them so much we put out their first LP, A Date With You.  But, like all good things, they must come to an end, which is why the band is moving up to release their next LP with the folks over at Burger Records.  If you’ve watched the band live, you’ve probably heard “Wallpaper;” it’s been a huge staple in their live sets.  They’re going to be taking that live set to the West Coast in a few weeks, bringing with them a tour only cassette with the below tune; it’ll also be featured on their next LP, which is slated for a release later in the year.  Come on, this tune’s just so good. Jam it loud.

michael-coomersHaving already shared with you new single “Wilshire and Fairfax”, I’m happy today to bring you another new track from Michael Coomer and his project known as Lace Curtains.  This one comes in the form of a video and is entitled “Boardwalk to the Alps”.  The track is yet again superb with its quirky and undeniably catchy rhythms throughout.  Fans of old school monster cinema will also love the video.  Check it out after the jump.

Song Premiere: Lace Curtains

LaceCurtainsSunsetBlvd3grabMany of us remember Michael Coomer for his time in Austin giants Harlem, but with their now hiatus status, Coomer has had more time to focus on his Lace Curtains project.  After The Garden of Joy and the Well of Loneliness impressed just about everyone in 2012, it’s just been announced that we have a new album of material to look forward to this year.  Offering us a preview is this great new track I’ve been jamming all morning called “Wilshire and Fairfax”.  It’s a groovy, breezy sort of pop number with some elements of doo-wop that would be great for your early morning.  From past work, I’m expecting the entire album to be just as superb.

Pick up the new LP entitled A Signed Piece of Paper on October 23rd via Female Fantasy Records.

Stream the Grape St. Record – A Date With You

grape_st._cover12inchHey-o folks.  Been hard at work here behind the scene to get this new record and all it’s info out to the masses. A Date with You is the second release from our up-start label here at the site, and we’re really stoked to be working with Grape St., which features members from Harlem, Hello Caller and Frank Smith.  Honestly, I don’t really care what anyone says about this record; it’s infectious, and there’s not a bad song on here.  I hope you dig it; I hope you jam out with your clam out.  If you’re interested in purchasing it, you can pre-order the album HERE.

New Jam from Grape Street + Album News

grape_st._cover12inchThe time is nigh for the second release from Austin Town Hall Records; I’m thrilled to officially announce that we’ll be releasing the debut album from Austin’s Grape St., A Date With You.  We’ll be doing a limited run, which will be released on March 12th, and I assure you, you’re going to want to get your hands on this, as their likely to go quick.  For those of you not in the know, Grape St. features members of Harlem, Frank Smith and Hello Caller, so you know you’ve got some heavy hitters writing songs.  I chose this jam to share with you (along with another single) because in my eyes it demonstrates more than one direction the band is going.  It’s not all clever hooks and bouncing beats…I particularly dig the horns.  Pre-orders for the album will be up in a few weeks.

Don’t forget Austinites! They’ll also be playing with Residual Kid and Calm Blue Sea this Friday!

More Hooks from Lace Curtains

Just a short while ago we brought you an awesome jangly jam from Michael Coomer’s new project, Lace Curtains, but now it’s time to unleash another hook-laden pop tune for your ears.  This time around, there’s a steadiness to the song’s development, but it’s still got that bouncy quality that Michael’s other group, Harlem, displayed.  I can’t wait to hear the entire record; it’s all going to sound this good I swear.  This new album is titled The Garden of Joy and the Well of Loneliness, and it comes out this July via Female Fantasy–something to look forward to listening to for the rest of your summer.

Nice Pop Tune from Lace Curtains

I knew this was coming, after running into Michael Croomer over at Fun Fun Fun Fest last year, but I couldn’t have dreamed that it would sound as good as this track that GvsB ran recently.  Lace Curtains, Croomer’s new project while Harlem is on the back-burner is just another great spawn of that incredible Austin band, with Grape Street being the other.  Sometime this year we shall get to hear The Garden of Joy and the Well of Loneliness, which is slated to come out via Female Fantasy.  I don’t really care when it comes out, as long as it has great songs like this one on it.

Stellar Track from Grape Street

I’ve been scouring the Internet for some time hoping to find a link to some music from Austin’s Grape Street, and finally it’s showed up.  The band is comprised of Curtis from Harlem, Aaron from Frank Smith and Chris from the Stuffies; the association of these dudes all getting together should be enough to get you excited.  But, if you’ve kept up on the local scene as of late, the group’s been doing an excellent job of creating their own hype by playing their asses off all over town.  No word as to when, or if, we’ll see a release, but you can catch another great track HERE.  Stay tuned as we hope to hear more from these guys!

Show Preview: Literature, Grape St. and more @ Beerland (6/29)

Date Wednesday, June 29th
Location Beerland
Doors 900p
Tickets CHEAP

Beerland is perhaps my favorite place in Austin during the summer, mostly because I can actually go their shows since I have a summer break. Wednesday night’s show though, it’s bringing together all my favorites in one small space, and you know it’s going to be cheap.  They’ve got my favorite local act, Literature, who of course are going to kill it.  Grape Street, featuring members of Harlem, and they always win.  Some man named Wes Coleman, who you should definitely know by now. Oh, and The Wolf and Warren Jackson Hearne too.  All this, air conditioning, good beer prices, and I’m sold. So you know where to be if you want to have a good time in Austin on Wednesday night.
