Back to the grind! I’m back at work, getting read to teach the kids and what not! But, looking back at last week, we covered a lot of rad territory I think that’s worthy of you easing into your work week, or just your day. I was stoked to hear Emma Kupa popping up on the latest track from Let’s Whisper, a band she’s joined recently. RayRay dropped new tunes from Sunfruits and Pale Blue Eyes, as well as threw some love towards the new Mall Walker EP. I know there was a lot of love and buzz on the new Peel Dream Magazine and Winter tunes, but personally, the track I couldn’t stop playing was the Enola jam inclued. Anyways, enjoy.

High Sunn Share June’s Mist

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve covered High Sunn, but Justin Cheromiah’s project has always reminded me of our good friends Letting Up Despite Great Faults. It’s definitely something that falls in the indiepop groove, driving rhythmic elements consistently pushing the song forward as those dreampop guitars swirl around each little syllable Justin’s dropping into the track. This song celebrates the band’s upcoming mini-tour along the West Coast at the end of July, as well as hints at something more to come later this year…or so we’re told, but reset assured I’ll keep you in the know there.

High Sunn Snuck in Another Album

At the moment, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of artists with the productivity rate of Justin Cheromiah aka High Sunn. Only about a week into 2019, and he’s already released a new LP, Our Perception. It’s another captivating entry into the young artists catalog, going back and forth between dreamy angular guitars and electronically pulsed bedroom pop numbers. Surprisingly, while there are some tweaks I’d like to hear, there’s not a bad song in this collection, meaning Cheromiah is still riding his own hit-making machine, living in the land between emo and dream pop; I’ll take it. Our Perception is out right now via Spirit Goth.

Another Tune from High Sunn

Clearly, I’m really loving what I’m hearing from Justin Cheromiah and his High Sunn project. This round he does a great job of balancing the quiet/loud dynamic; you can hear the tension building in the sound as cymbals quietly crash behind Justin’s voice in the verses, before their brief choral explosion. The song goes back and forth between the two, with the noisier element winning out in the song’s latter half. This youngster seems destined to release a great record, and we’ll all know for sure when Missed Connections drops on May 4th via PNKSLM.

Enjoying This New High Sunn

PNKSLM is on a pretty solid roll right now, having just released the latest from Holy, but now they’re bringing in a slightly poppier vibe with the announcement of the debut from High Sunn. The opening minute of this track flirts with catchy jangle pop, though after 30 seconds, the frantic energy sees the song pushing further. Once the vocals from Justin jump in there’s definitely an earnestness…something that can’t be detained. There’s just hints of softness in the vocals on the chorus, which holds great contrast to the general theme. Look for Missed Connections on April 13th.
