More New Honduras

hondurasHonduras are just a short week away from unleashing their Gathering Rust EP, not to mention a tour that will lead them through most of the US, including SXSW. Long have we championed the band, and we’re not stopping with this new crunchy jam. It’s got a lot of that garage feel that makes a band like Thee Oh Sees so enchanting; it just builds tension on the back of heavy riffs. Don’t let that mellow moment near the 2 minute mark set you off, as the band close out in emphatic style.

Honduras Ready Gathering Rust EP

hondurasWe’ve backed the Brooklyn band Honduras since they first came to our attention, and we’re really looking forward to their new Gathering Rust EP. They just offered up another glimpse of what it might sound like, landing in the same arena as fellow NYC acts Parquet Courts. But, don’t think that makes them mere copycats, rather they take it tossing out their own spin; the guitar chords are warmer (less angular) and the vocals are less spastic. In fact, I think I prefer this better (sacrilege you say!). Oh well, I’ll hand my hat on this set of tunes for sure. The EP hits on March 4th.

SXSW Superlatives: RayRay

Young BuffaloIt’s always a struggle to get back to work after over a week of play time.  Reminiscing helps ease the sleepy eyes and doldrums so lets have another look back at the awesome week of music that was.  Nathan kicked us off yesterday with some fine observations and I’ll continue the opinions today about the SXSW music week.  Follow the jump for my awards.

Honduras, It’s Been Awhile

hondoA year or so ago, I was really into jamming Honduras, but they seem to have been relatively through that time…until this brand new single caught my ear.  It fulfills on early promise of blending melodies with this post-rock sensations…the spoken word vocal delivery is a nice twist on the style. Still, the band have a great tendency to get noisy in all the right places, which ends up always keeping their tracks memorable.  Look for their debut, Rituals, this June via Black Bell Records.

New Music from Honduras

hondurasI checked out this tune from Honduras, a band I have talked about previously, and it seems that they’re up to their catchy old tricks.  The band is crafting these crunchy guitar pop anthems, much like Nathan from Wavves was able to accomplish, though these songs seem to have a bit more focus…and perhaps slightly less of an edge.  It’s a version of the indie rock scene that puts them in line with their comrades Twin Peaks, who we know have made a big name for themselves this year.  Look for the band’s Break EP this coming November.

Rad Rocker from Honduras

HondurasPress.145927There’s something going on in the rock movement of late (the last year or so) that shows this relaxed quality of vocal delivery pushed forward by bits of post punk and touches of the American troubadour.  Bands like Parquet Courts are really growing in popularity, and I expect the same thing to happen for Honduras.  The band released this track off their Morality Cuts EP a while back, but now they’re seeing a re-release on Last Place Tapes, which is how it was brought to our attention.  Again, the vibe’s great here, bordering somewhere between punk rock and the likes of the Replacements.  I’m pretty sure you’ll dig.
