Show Preview: LSD and the Search for God @ Cheer Ups (10/21)

There’s a special show awaiting Austinites on Saturday evening over at Cheer Up Charlies: LSD and the Search for God. The band is probably one of the quintessential modern shoegaze bands; they’ve garnered praise since their inception in 2005, with the release of Heaven is a Place further cementing their status. But, don’t rest on your laurels here, as the rest of the line-up is fleshed out with some of the finer shoegaze/dream pop acts in town. You show up, as you should, and you’ll get sets from She Sir, Single Lash, Krista Van Liew and Ringo Deathstarr…might not be a better place to be on Saturday night. Stream Heaven is a Place below. Show Preview: Part Time @ Hotel Vegas (8.28)

parttime

Date Thursday, August 28th
Location Hotel Vegas
Doors 10:00 PM
Tickets $5

Seems to be a lull in good shows, so why not spend your hard earned cash and check out this great little show.  Part Time were supposed to be coming with their friends Gap Dream in tow, but unfortunately, GD had to pull out, but that doesn’t mean the former will skip town.  Part Time released the excellent PDA recently, and you’ll definitely want to catch their entire set to let your self fall dreamily into the night.  Also, they’re bringing Sea Lions with them, who have been fairly silent as of late, though I always find my way back to their Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sea Lions LP. To top it off, Grape St. will be filling the bill too, in preparation for their own tour out to the West Coast.

Show Preview: How To Dress Well @ Mohawk (11.29)

Date Thursday, November 29th
Location Mohawk
Doors 9:00 PM
Tickets $12 @ the Door

Thursday nights are always good for rock n’ roll, but in this case, it’s good for an upbeat evening with some electronic stylings brought to you by How to Dress Well.  After releasing Total Loss this year, the band’s star has begun to rise, though the group’s blend of electronica is a lot more soulful than much of the work out there.  The show also features our local favorites, Royal Forest, and a band we’ve recently taken a liking to, Beacon.  If you’re looking for a show to attend, you can’t go wrong by hitting up the Mohawk.
