Man I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m super excited for Thursday and the start of the new look Levitation Festival in Austin. The lineup is absolutely loaded with great music with not a single day, or even hour, lacking of some quality live music. For real, this is a lineup ya’ll. As we typically do with festivals in town, we plan to preview a few things for you to help you better plan for the weekend. Today I am extremely pleased to share with you an expertly crafted Levitation playlist from our old friends A Place to Bury Strangers. The band really nailed it with this one and offered us way more songs than we normally ask for. Post Rock Soccer Ode from Dark Blue

dark blueFirst, I was surprised to see that Jade Tree was still releasing music; I used to love that label, but somehow completely forgot them.  But, for myself and the other lads at ATH, we profess our eternal love of soccer daily, and it’s all the reason to share this number from Dark Blue since it’s been labeled an ode to the sport and hooliganism (which I don’t support). Even if you don’t like soccer, surely you’ll appreciate this lead single from the band’s new 7″, which has this nice croon resting on top of noisy guitar riffs.  The vinyl version of this 7″ will come with a cover of John Cale‘s “Hungry for Love;” it will be released July 15th.

Synth Driven Track from Luxury Liners

I’ve written about the songwriting prowess of Carter Tanton before, and he’s back again, this time under the moniker of Luxury Liners.  He set off to record his latest record as a selection of John Cale covers, but like all great things, it evolved into something all his own.  The track below is using Cale’s lyrics, but the song itself takes on a life of it’s own, moving through three distinctly different phases.  First you get a slowly evolving stark electronic sound, then it moves into a more danceable groove, finally ending in an explosion of experimentation.  The new record, They’re Flowers, will be released to the masses via Western Vinyl on April 2nd, and it looks to be an openly creative piece of work.
