I am a fan. We are fans. Hugo Manuel’s Chad Valley project was a side deal from the band Jonquil. When I caught Chad Valley doing a fill-in set during SxSW several years ago, I forgot who I was there to see. I’ve since seen Hugo a few times as Chad Valley and once with Jonquil. Left happy each time.
So Chad Valley is back with a new song called “True”, the first single from Entirely New Blue, a ballad to dance pop bliss. Cascine is releasing the album and pre-orders are up now for for a midd-to-late September ship. Along with the album news, Chad Valley is headlining a North American tour, including a stop in Austin at Red7 on October 22.
Yes, more show pics.
I am still plowing through a backlog of photos from last week’s blitz of shows. This post features shots of Ladders, Jonquil and Keep Shelly in Athens playing the Mohawk’s inside stage after the Real Estate show. And you may notice the post title above being show pics of Jonquil even though they weren’t the headliner and the reason for that is Keep Shelly in Athens turned off the lights. The projected scenes lent for a moody atmosphere, but not-so-good for pics.
More show comments with the shots after the break…
With all the killer shows going down this week, you’re really gonna have to pace yourself so you don’t lose your job. One of the many superb shows this week that you better get to is going down on Wednesday at the Mohawk and features great indie bands Real Estate and Twerps. This is surely going to be a show you won’t want to miss. Also stick around for the aftershow on the inside stage featuring Keep Shelly in Athens and Jonquil. Duh.

I’ve always been a big fan of Jonquil. At times their music is pop with dance inducing rhythms, but then they can just be more of a straight up rock n roll band. Either way, I find myself listening to the band when looking for something unique to pass the time. Band member Robin McDiarmid took some time to answer our SXSW questions and his answers can be found after the jump.
The new EP from Oxford band Jonquil, One Hundred Suns, has been getting some pretty heavy rotation here in the ATH offices. Locked within that EP, you’ll find some rather tasty subtle pop tunes that get better and better with each listen. Lucky for you readers, that EP is now available for purchase on Dovecote Records. The band is also currently giving away this new tune “Get Up” to celebrate the release. It sort of cracks me up that the press release for Jonquil reads that they are “Paul Simon’s take on The Smiths”… spot on! Don’t forget that album track “Fighting Smiles” is still streaming elsewhere on ATH.

I’ve really been enjoying this new track called “Fighting Smiles” from Oxford band Jonquil. The track will appear on the band’s first ever stateside EP entitled One Hundred Suns which is available November 16th on Dovecote Records. Have yourself a listen to their version of feel good pop music below and let us know what ya think.
