Tim Rutili of Califone Plays Beerland Saturday Night

Former Red Red Meat and current Califone songwriter Tim Rutili has been at it for forever. But, currently, he’s focused on his project with his Austin friend, Craig Ross; the two released Guitars Tuned to Air Conditioners back in 2016 and 10 Seconds to Collapse this last month. If you were to listen to the lead single, you’d probably recall Yankee Hotel Foxtrot era Wilco…when they were still dabbling with experimenting over folk structures. The duo will be playing Saturday night at Beerland, joined on stage by friends Lindsey Verrill and Thor Harris; Moist Flesh and Knife in the Water will also be playing. Stream the song below and you’ll know immediately why you need to be there! More info on the show/tickets HERE.

ATX Spotlight: More New Knife in the Water

If you’re not anticipating the new Knife in the Water record, then perhaps you’ve lost something. But, now’s your chance to find it, as the band have released another single leading up to the release of Reproduction. While I love the slide guitar work, I think the intimacy of the track is what I find so appealing; it sort of reminds me of a Dean Warehampenned track, moving ever so gracefully, offering solace to anyone willing to take it. Texturally, you’ve got the sliding guitar, but there’s also some heavy strumming that makes it’s way through the speakers in the perfect way, adding a depth to an already brilliant piece. Keeled Scales will be releasing the LP on March 3rd.

Show Preview: Austin Jukebox #4 – Saturday @ Beerland

jukeboxAs of right now, there’s a very very top secret guest headlining this event at Beerland Saturday night. We’ve been told it’ll either have all of Austin running to the venue…or you’ll just say “I don’t know who that is.” But…guests aside…the line-up of openers is remarkable enough to get you out on Saturday night. Jerry DeCicca(of the Black Swans) will set the mood for you early on, opening the night shortly after doors at 9 PM. Then you’ve got the powerhouse noisemakers from Burnt Skull, who always remind me that I need to go back and revisit Sewer Birth, their album from 12XU. Then of course, you get one of Austin’s most underrated, Knife in the Water…who have great news themselves…with an album on the way, and a reissue on vinyl too. All in all, even if you don’t know the headliner…don’t you wanna end up at Beerland? Stay tuned on twitter and Facebook for news of this very special guest!

Tickets for the show will be a measly $5 at the door!
