Lifeguard Share Alarm Single

We should all get used to hearing the name Lifeguard, or at least that’s what I’m hoping for the young band; they’ll be releasing their debut for Matador Records, compiling a 2022 EP with another EP of fresh tunes…one of which you’ll get below. It’s really hard to decide what the draw is, and by that, I mean there’s just so much to love. There’s this driving rhythm, propelled by phenomenal drum work and this sublimely steady bass groove, leaving plenty of open space though for the guitars. And those guitars, they twist and they turn, operating in the most succinct non-linear fashion, all the while offering up discordant noise and sharp, angular notes that ring in the air. None of that even comes close to the personal connection I have with the vocal delivery, particularly as there’s a whispering bit on this tune offering just a glimmer of melody. They’ll be releasing Crowd Can Talk/Dressed in Trenches on July 7th, with a huge tour in the latter Summer months. Check out the live video of their new single below, recorded at Steve Albini’s studio (not sure who it is, but think he was dating Matt Healy?). You can find the recorded version and grab the release HERE.

Shame Share New Song via Live Video

I know folks don’t agree with me, but I feel like Shame is the at the top of the food chain for this sort of brand of post punk; I think maybe only Protomartyr come anywhere close. But, this brand new track, recorded from an earlier live set showcases how the band have begun to blossom, incorporating new elements into their sound; it’s only making my stance all the stronger as they take what quickly became a stale genre into new territory. Heaven knows I need a new record now, but knowing they’re stretching their sound, I can be patient knowing there’s this power on the horizon.

Austin’s Belcurve Drop Live Video + Show Tomorrow

There’s a great show going down tomorrow evening over at Cheer Up Charlies, which gives us the opportunity to drop this live video from Belcurve, who are one of several acts playing the venue. The video is the perfect portrayal of the band’s power, with Sarah Castro’s distinctive vocals dominating the front of the mix…clearly she’s got some range in those pipes! It’s a pretty strong performance from the rest of the band as well, crashing in unison to meet the rise and fall of Castro’s pitch-shifting.

You’ll be able to catch them at 11 on the Outside Stage, but be sure to show up early and stay late…the bill features The Reputations, Magic Rockers of TX, Loteria and our own Lochness Mobsters!
