ACL 2015 WE2 In Pictures: Sunday Edition

HozierMy have a nice weekend post this week is the final edition of ACL 2015 pics. Sunday Funday…

It was a pretty busy day and though it got off to a slow start, things escalated quickly with a personal highlight from Strand of Oaks. Knifight was a solid local start and Beat Connection was sexually objectified while playing their smooth new jams. Amason seemed hungover. Sheppard proves that Aussie pop music is based on 80’s movie montages in the best way possible. Lord Huron was nice in the crowd. Strand of Oaks is rock and roll. The Decemberists played a mostly different set. Kurt Vile was maybe a little too high? Is that possible? Alt-J was kinda boring, but photogenic at the same time. I had a heat check on Hozier, big humble, genuine smile from a guy that has talent to overcome an annoying hit song. Florence & The Machine was pretty and had mental fans in a completely different demographic from last Sunday’s headliner.

Is That Lord Huron I Hear?

unnamed-3I sure hope it’s Lord Huron! Okay, it is, but I feel like ever since I was turned onto the band, I’ve heard far less than I really wanted to hear…I guess not everyone writes at Ty Segall speed. The LA group has always had this organic spirit, pulling in various resources to complete their sound, rounding out the folk backbone of the song into exuberant bits of well-constructed pop tunes.  The group has just announced that they’ll be releasing their new effort, Strange Trails, on April 7th via IAMSOUND Records.  I’m excited for this; I always enjoy the work they complete. Look for them on tour this Spring, including a Stubbs spot here in Austin.

Show Review: Lord Huron @ Stubb’s (10/3)

Ryan and Nathan gave Lord Huron an atta-boy during SxSW 2011. Tough choice for the photo-guy, Menomena or Lord Huron? Well, I hadn’t seen Lord Huron yet, so I jumped at that show to enjoy a relaxing evening at Stubb’s Jr (that’d be the inside stage).

This was the second night of their tour after an opening night in Denton supporting the pending release Lonesome Dreams, due next week. Night Moves will be opening for this stretch on the road, a nice add for a solid bill with just enough contrast in styles to make sure you had a little something for everyone.

Read on for a few more show notes and plenty of pics.

Plenty of great shows to choose from this week, with many of them coming on back to back nights Wednesday and Thursday.  My show pick for Wednesday has to go to indie surf/dream pop band Lord Huron.  I’ve never actually seen this band outside of their stellar SXSW performances show it should be nice to check ’em out for a full on show.  Supporting the band for the night is more than adequate opener Night Moves.  Great lineup, great venue = sure to be bad ass show.

More New Music From Lord Huron

The release of Lonesome Dreams from ATH approved act Lord Huron is coming next month on IAMSOUND so it’s a good time to get some press going for the band.  A couple months ago, we posted up on the new song that everyone was buzzing about “Time to Run”.  Well today we’ve got another song off the record entitled “Brother” that’s also been floating around the interwebs for the last few days.  Hopefully this one will sway your decision on wether or not to pick up the record when it comes out.  You better.

New Jamz from Lord Huron

We’ve been huge supporters of Lord Huron, but it’s been quite some time since we’ve heard anything from them…that was until today.  With information leaking to the Internet that their new album, Lonesome Dreams, will hit stores on October 9th via IAMSOUND, we’re getting that longing feeling. This first single sprawls out just like the tracks off their early Mighty EP, but it takes off with a bit of a gallop too, demonstrating the group’s progression since 2010.  I have a feeling this is going to meet our expectations in every way!

Fun Fest is coming up this weekend, but let’s not forget about a few quality shows going down this week to prep you for the party up ahead.  Wednesday evening one of our favorite acts during SXSW, Lord Huron, is returning to Austin for a show at Lambert’s downtown.  Grandchildren will be your opening support for the evening.

New Music From Lord Huron

I’m probably running really late on getting a tune up by Lord Huron, but I don’t really care because this sweet jam “Mighty” is just too good not to post.  What can I say, I’m a sucker for hazey pop tunes.  The track is set to appear on a new EP of same name due out November 2nd.  You can also check out some of Lord Huron’s other tunes over on his bandcamp site.  Dig.
