Last Week’s Jams (1.27 – 1.31)

Well, the year’s fully in swing, as evidenced by the ridiculous amount of music we got to listen to, though we only managed to write about a mere 25+ tracks and albums. I’ll cop to the fact that the end of the week was the highlight, hitting with a new Lone Striker single on the same day we got The Laughing Chimes album out there. Buffet Lunch continued to flex their musicianship, while the Rishis offered a brand single from their next LP. New Tunde Adebimpe and La Securite had us on the trends, but in the end, I was just glad to hear new stuff from our friends in Seasonal Falls. What will be your favorite jam of last week?

LP Gavin Channels Pavement on New Single

If you missed the olden days of slacker rock, might we remind you that you have new heroes ahead in LP Gavin. They definitely pull out some tricks from the Pavement back catalog, though it gets reimagined in a new presentation. You’ll find the reclining verses coiled around these emphatic punches of grungy pop rock; I like to think there’s just a bit more pulling on the reins, which allows the hook to really sail through the speakers. Hard to find that perfect balance between bursts and bops, but they’re pulling it off successfully below. Trials, Tribulations, Deliberations, Pratfalls, Reprieves, Etc is out February 28th via Repeating Cloud and Safe Suburban Home.

Last Week’s Jams (10.21 – 10.25)

It seems like the year is grinding to a slow halt, as there are fewer and fewer trickles of new tracks coming our way, though I’ll admittedly hope that that’s the end of the year preparations not the musical end of times. Still, I fell in love with a lot of great songs, like a new single from the last Mope Grooves LP, which just came out on 12XU. Also, 12XU adjacent is a new single from Austin’s Quin Galavis, which I was digging too. There was a brand new single from The Gentle Spring, which hopefully got you Field Mice fans excited. Plus, RayRay has been busting his ass on getting coverage out for Levitation this week, with new posts up on Pissed Jeans and Acid Mothers Temple.

After a little blast from that earlier Nothing Natural tune, you’re likely ready to settle into your chair, then get right down to business, thus you’ll need to get this LP Gavin track on repeat. It’ll greet you with a little bit of a bluesy swagger, then churning it out with a bit of fuzz to make your speakers rattle. All the while, Gavin is just staying cool, detailing the little observations of the world he’s been able to make. There’s something in the vocals and the guitars that almost seems to drag a bit behind the beat, only to pick up again and launch into gritty little breakdowns and solo guitar chugs. Safe Suburban Home will be putting out a new LP in February of next year, so keep your ears ready.
