An old school favorite of the ATH crew Matt Pond PA are making their way over to the outside stage at Mohawk on Monday evening.  The now veteran act will be joined by Wintersleep and Woolgather.  I haven’t been a huge fan of the band’s latest material, but I’m sure they can still put on a solid show.

SXSW Watchlist: Matt Pond PA

mattpondpaMatt Pond PA is a band that we’ve been following for years now so they were an easy choice for us to spotlight on our SXSW watchlist.  Matt Pond PA have been around for a loooooong time and they seem to be that band always coming in just a bit under the radar.  You won’t hear these guys on the radio nor will you read much about them on P4K or The Gum.  Regardless, we’ve always found the songs of Matt Pond PA a soothing mixture of slow pop jams that best fit in with a good cup of coffee during your Sunday morning hangover time.  Their 2004 release Emblems has also got to be one of my favorite “indie” albums of all time.  Continue after the jump to read our short interview with leading man Matt Pond.

New Music From Matt Pond PA

mattpondpanv8I think we may have  missed this new Matt Pond PA song during our holiday hangover, but we figured you’d like it regardless.  The PA band has been hard at work as of late and is now prepping a new LP entitled Dark Leaves for an April 6th release.  Many of you have heard a few of these new songs when we posted about a free EP from Matt and the gang back in December.  Check out a preview of the upcoming album below with new track “Starting” which also appears on a new 7″ single.  You can pick up a copy of one of those on the Altitude Records site.

Going on 10 years in the business, Matt Pond PA continue to pump out quality new tunes year after year.  Last week the Pennsylvania based band offered a downloadable 9 song EP ironically titled The Freeep.  Download the new songs for free or check out opening track “Hearts and Minds” right here.

Black Angels on Woxy

The Futurist has a nice write up and some mp3s you can download of a recent performance The Black Angels did for the Woxy Lounge. Woxy Lounge has been showcasing some pretty heavy hitters on their Lounge Act website. Head over to the Woxy site for live performances from Mates of State, Matt Pond PA, & Cursive among others.
