Premiere: Meet Upper Deck Pets

upperdeckUsually you reserve Saturday for Twitter and nonsense, but for all our Austin readers, and those just browsing the Internet, I had to introduce you to Upper Deck Pets. The band has is comprised of bits of local favorite Milezo and Marmalakes, and if this is their first single, we’re in for a whole lot of great tunes! It opens quickly with this guitar line that moves back and forth, filled with a layer of fuzz. The vocals get delivered quickly, then they take on a croon as the guitars get heavier and build back into the rhythmic pulse of tune; it all fades into a bit of experimental noise as the track closes. I’m not going to lie…this tune is addicting, and deserves to be the start to your Saturday.

You get an added bonus as the band releases a tape single with their friends smith+robot tomorrow night over at Sahara Lounge! Doors are at 7…buy local.

Show Pics: Free Week 2016 Pt. 1

Night DriveMy turn for giving Free Week a little love.

Night one with camera was a solid lineup at The Mohawk to celebrate our friend’s birthday. Pooneh is kind of a big deal in music photography and a damn nice person to boot. I was at the show and bought her a beer when she turned twenty-one five long years ago. Heh. But here we were with an excuse as good as any to have a solid lineup of bands with a huge amount of variation in genres. Featured and immortalized by the camera’s Shivery Shakes, Big Bill, Unknown Relatives, Milezo and Night Drive.

We persevered against the drizzly evening for a crisp night. Click through, please.

Austin Spotlight: Stream the Milezo Album

milezoIt’s been a really great year for Austin music, recording-wise, so it should come as no surprise that there’s another solid release coming out of the town to wrap up the year. Milezo just tossed out their new album, Heads on Holiday. Like most things done with the band, the entire listen is a journey. You’ll hear songs of the psych sort pushed in the direction of wistful pop songs then off to lush gazing tracks. It’s never in one place long, offering a lot of discovery for listeners. Take a trip with these guys by streaming it in its entirety below; you won’t regret it.
