Fleece Share Thumping New Single

Montreal based rockers Fleece shared this new tune “Bodie Lie” yesterday, and though I may be a bit tardy in my posting, I think you’ll find the song to be completely irresistible. Coming from their upcoming 3rd album entitled Stunning and Atrocious, the song can fool the listener a bit as it begins as a sort of slow, melodic, almost folk tune, but then truly drops about a minute in to really give us something fierce. Love the percussion work on this one and continue to find new things to enjoy after each and every listen.

The new album, Stunning and Atrocious, will drop on August 20th.

Stream New Jesse Marchant Album

Canadian born musician Jesse Marchant, formerly known as JBM, is one of the most talked about artists on the pages of ATH over the years. While he is clearly a singer/songwriter at his core, Marchant has always managed to expand on the genre with intimate, yet fleshed out tunes, that can offer the listener just about every emotion imaginable during one song. Naturally this means we have been giving this brand new album, Antelope Running, heavy rotation around our offices over the last few weeks. The stunning new LP from Marchant is streamable now on Spotify and also available for vinyl pre-orders via AntiFragile Music. I think you will find this to be one of the most creative and beautifully arranged albums of the year.

New Single & Video From POSTDATA

Our Canadian friend Paul Murphy, under his side project known as POSTADA, recently released his third album entitled Twin Flames just a few short weeks ago. If for some reason you slept on the release, might I suggest you check out his latest single/video, “Inside Out”, and give the album another chance. This song is one of my highlights from the new LP as it features a somewhat Americana inspiration, but with some incredible pop sensibilities as well. A truly stunning tune.

Twin Flames from POSTDATA is on sale now via Paper Bag Records.

Have Another Plants And Animals Tune

Earlier in the summer, I was pleased to share with you some new tunes and an album announcement from the iconic and always reliable Montreal based band Plants and Animals. Over the years, it’s been interesting to hear he mutations of the band’s sound but I feel like this new single “Love that Boy” could be an even further evolution into greatness. The bright and sunny vibes from the band are still there underneath but some new elements of R&B beats and groovy, soothing swirls have also been added in to give the song this lovely, relaxing vibe. Have yourself a listen below.

Plants and Animals will release The Jungle on October 23rd via Secret City Records.

Missed This Gulfer Tune

Fridays in the music world have become crazy during quarantine as this seems to be the popular day for new music to drop all over the place. With that in mind, I miss things from time to time, like this impressive new single called “Forget (Friendly) from Montreal based band Gulfer. For those who know my musical tastes, one can quickly see why I would share a song like this despite my tardiness. The track clearly has some of those late emo vibes I love when the genre started getting grittier, with a more punk rock influence seen in bands like The Casket Lottery or Cursive. If nothing else, you have to love the tense, emotionally driven vocals from leading man Vincent Ford.

Gulfer will release this song on their new, self-titled LP due out on October 16th via a joint effort between Top Shelf Records and Royal Mountain Records.

Plants and Animals Return Again

Over the year we’ve talked quite a bit about Montreal based band Plants and Animals, but the group seemingly goes away for a few years after releasing new music. Last we heard from the guys, they released the underrated album Waltzed in From the Rumbling way back in 2016. Well they are returning again in 2020 with this new single called “Sacrifice” which has caused me stop everything I’m doing and listen to this jam over and over again. It moves at an absolutely frantic pace, leading up to some drastic break downs and powerful vocal performances. This is exactly what I needed today.

Plants and Animals will release this song as part of a new album coming sometime in 2020.

Fresh Music from Holding Hands

We took off at the tail end of last week, but one thing I was listening to was the latest release from Montreal’s Holding Hands, Exile. First, all proceeds from the release go to the Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal, so please be sure to throw what you can spare that way. Second, I’d probably stick around this song for the chorus alone; it has that familiar feel to it, that place that in music that just makes you feel like you’ve been welcomed home. In the end, the song takes up this casual jam, illustrating the craft in the songwriting, but of course, you were already hooked by the balladry up front, eh? Keep on listening here friends.

Maybird Shares a Catchy Tune

If you weren’t aware, Maybird is an outfit from Rochester, NY, that is crafting catchy psych rock mixed with roots elements. They dropped their album, Things I Remember From Earth, back in May, and now they’ve got a new video for the short, but sweet track “Montreal.” What’s so lovely about this tune is the way it’s not even two minutes, and yet, it’s got all the makings of a tune that will get stuck in your head for days. The whole track bursts with energy, and the chorus has this incredible build to it that escalates the tune from bubbling to boiling. Take a listen below and enjoy.

Look Vibrant Share Cherish Everything

Montreal’s Look Vibrant have been bending and blurring the lines of pop music, and with their latest single “Cherish Everything” they aim to do it again. Twinkling electro-notes and soft percussion set the stage, crafting this mystifying pop realm that lets the vocals walk into the picture. If you listen closely, there’s these really light backing vocals just barely giving emphasis; it’s the exact sort of detail the band put into their work that keeps drawing me back to them. The whole thing is an otherworldly craft that allows you to escape, albeit for a brilliant four minutes; look for the tune on their forthcoming Cherish Everything, out June 21st.

Let’s Get Rowdy With Priors

It’s Friday and I think we could all use a good kick in the face right? Maybe not a literal kick in the face but how about a nice wake up call from our friends in Montreal based band Priors. Their new single “New Pleasure” is two minutes and twelve seconds of sheer badass, rock n roll punk music. If most bands could pack this much energy into such a short amount of time, the world would be a better place.

Priors will be releasing the New Pleasure LP on November 16th via Slovenly Recordings.
