Well we are sort of winding down our preview coverage of SXSW bands today and tomorrow as we ease into the weekend and shut down for next week. We’ve still got a couple more previews to sneak in before signing off and today I am pleased to share question responses from Montreal based outfit La Securite. We ready, are you ready? Somehow it is March and now officially THE month of SXSW is upon us. If you are feeling unprepared, we are here to try and get things in order for you with our annual previews of artists coming into town in a couple of weeks. Today I am pleased to share with you some answers from Montreal based group Le Couleur. You can see everything after the jump.
You’re not going to want to miss out on this new Bodywash track, particularly if you’re dabbling the darkened corners of the post-punk industrial complex. For starters, the video’s really great, mixing in various components to build this futuristic world that meets up with the musical element. That music is both propulsive and noisy, though it remains wholly tied to the central melody that drives the band’s creation. Guitar notes swirl angularly, until they forced to skitter off into the noisier realms; the vocals lurk somewhere in the song’s shadows, careful not to outshine everything that surrounds them. The duo will release I Held the Shape While I Could on April 14th via Light Organ Records.
Mitch Davis is about to release his new LP, The Haunt, dropping this April via Arbutus Records. But, before he drops it, he’s making his way down to Austin for SXSW, as well as hitting up a bunch of other dates on his way towards town. Well this week marks the official 3 week countdown to the fun times we all love during SXSW. Hard to believe that things might be “normal” again this year, but it seems like we may be headed towards live shows and events once again! How exciting for everyone in the music community. Once again, we are trying to prepare you as best we can for the week of music with interviews and previews from tons of band playing the festival. Montreal based rockers Fleece shared this new tune “Bodie Lie” yesterday, and though I may be a bit tardy in my posting, I think you’ll find the song to be completely irresistible. Coming from their upcoming 3rd album entitled Stunning and Atrocious, the song can fool the listener a bit as it begins as a sort of slow, melodic, almost folk tune, but then truly drops about a minute in to really give us something fierce. Love the percussion work on this one and continue to find new things to enjoy after each and every listen.
The new album, Stunning and Atrocious, will drop on August 20th.
Canadian born musician Jesse Marchant, formerly known as JBM, is one of the most talked about artists on the pages of ATH over the years. While he is clearly a singer/songwriter at his core, Marchant has always managed to expand on the genre with intimate, yet fleshed out tunes, that can offer the listener just about every emotion imaginable during one song. Naturally this means we have been giving this brand new album, Antelope Running, heavy rotation around our offices over the last few weeks. The stunning new LP from Marchant is streamable now on Spotify and also available for vinyl pre-orders via AntiFragile Music. I think you will find this to be one of the most creative and beautifully arranged albums of the year.
Our Canadian friend Paul Murphy, under his side project known as POSTADA, recently released his third album entitled Twin Flames just a few short weeks ago. If for some reason you slept on the release, might I suggest you check out his latest single/video, “Inside Out”, and give the album another chance. This song is one of my highlights from the new LP as it features a somewhat Americana inspiration, but with some incredible pop sensibilities as well. A truly stunning tune.

Earlier in the summer, I was pleased to share with you some new tunes and an album announcement from the iconic and always reliable Montreal based band Plants and Animals. Over the years, it’s been interesting to hear he mutations of the band’s sound but I feel like this new single “Love that Boy” could be an even further evolution into greatness. The bright and sunny vibes from the band are still there underneath but some new elements of R&B beats and groovy, soothing swirls have also been added in to give the song this lovely, relaxing vibe. Have yourself a listen below.
