One of Austin’s finest up and coming bands Balmorhea are playing another show at Mohawk on Wednesday evening. Fellow local buzz bands Mother Falcon and Lost River/Old River will be in support. For a Wednesday night in Austin, this is the place to be.

Saturday night I made my way over to The Mohawk in Austin for a show by Austin’s very own veterans Octopus Project. Joining those kids were fellow locals Mother Falcon and Tia Carerra. Fortunately for us, our photo lady Mary Rehak just so happened to be at the same show so we borrowed a few photos of Octopus Project. Follow the jump for some thoughts on the show and fancy photos.
The 101x Homegrown Live series continues their trend of solid local shows with another one set for Saturday night at the Mohawk featuring headliners Octopus Project. The now veteran locals will be joined on the stage by fellow locals Tia Carrera and Mother Falcon. After the early show wraps up, the inside stage will feature sets by Record Hop and Sundress. Anyone living in Austin that hasn’t seen Octopus Project live, needs to get off their ass and make it to this show. In the meantime, check out an interview we did the guys (and gal) a couple years ago during ACL. I’m also gonna post an old favorite tune of mine in hopes that they play it on Saturday.

Toy Joy are celebrating their 2nd annual art show at the United States Art Authority on Thursday night. All kinds of goodness are planned for this event including live music, art exhibits, food, drink, games and t-shirt making. The all local music lineup features former A2W band The Sour Notes along with Mother Falcon, The Department of Public Safety, and Achaychay. Should be a great way to spend your Thursday night.

Oh man oh man. Don’t you just love living in this city? When I see things like huge indie band Of Montreal playing at a smaller venue like Mohawk, I just get all warm and tingly inside. Hopefully you already got your tickets to this sold out show on Sunday or you’ll be stuck scalping for a good time. The visually and musically pleasing band will have opening support from Noot D’Noot and a solo set by James Husband. Try to make your way to the inside stage as well for a set by hot locals Mother Falcon.
