Mourn Return with New LP

Not too long ago the youngsters in Mourn were dipping their toes into the indie pond with a huge push from their label Captured Tracks. Now, a few years on, and grappling with success, the band returns with Sorpresa Familia. Our first listen has these jagged guitar lines, almost as if the band were branching into the realm of art punk; the lyrics even at times seem to have a sort of call and response fashion. But, what ultimately makes this song so infectious, along with the video, is that it captures the band as a joyful entity; the line of “what a shame” shouted at full force while the band follow it up with boisterous handclaps…it’s okay to have fun, I promise. Look for their new LP via Captured Tracks on June 15th.

More Mourn Music

mournLooks like the Mourn press cycle is in full swing, with another single coming a week after the last one just popped up. This time around, the young Spaniards seem a little bit more rambunctious, which definitely has my ears perked back. There’s a bit of seeming animosity built into the band’s self-described “poem of hope,” loosely influenced by William Blake. Their newest album, Ha Ha He, is just around the corner, with June 3rd set as the release date via Captured Tracks.

More Music from Mourn

mournPromising young Spanish act Mourn seem to have their legal issues all figured out, so they’re going full force pushing ahead with the promotion of their new album, Ha Ha He, which is out in just a couple of weeks (June 3rd). Their latest track seems to have a dark post-punk feel to it, filled with discordant chords and a propulsive movement that pushes the track ahead. I continue to be impressed by the group’s youth, as if that matters, but their craftsmanship rivals that of their peers, who are often years older. Look for the new LP via Captured Tracks.

Get a Little Dark With MOURN

12814617_1052562401433141_4702661731628891328_nMOURN is a group of four youngsters who hail from Catalonia, and are on the way to releasing their sophomore effort. They’ve got a new single for you to jam and find out why you should be in love with their sound if you haven’t already been. “Storyteller” is a fine example of a guitar-driven grower– the sound is pretty big from the start, which may have you wondering how it could possibly get much bigger. But it does– those guitars seem to get louder and the drums more explosive and present in the mix. What finally escalates the song into a bit more punk than rock is the raw way that the vocals evolve into a scream near the end. Make sure you listen and get excited for Ha, Ha, He. which is out June 3rd via Captured Tracksand that you can preorder here.

Here’s Another MOURN Single

mornYoung Spanish act MOURN burst into our world of awareness a few weeks ago when it was announced that the youngsters had just signed onto Captured Tracks.  Now we get another glimpse at the hot commodity coming from our Iberian friends.  You’ll hear a little quiver in the vocals, which reminds me of Screaming Females, though I think there’s a bounce and twang to the rest of the group that allows the band to stand on their own two legs. It definitely amazes me how a group so young can make tunes so accessible and in the now at such a young age.  You can grab MOURN next year in February.

Captured Tracks Signs MOURN

mourn‘Four nerds playing music and shit at the doors of hell.’  That’s right, that’s the band’s self-ascribed motto, which is a pretty bold statement if you’re looking to break into the indie music scene.  It’s even more telling that the band’s made up of a bunch of Spanish teens; that sort of exuberance can’t be captured on tape. Or can it? MOURN have recently signed with Captured Tracks to release their self-titled debut, and only time will tell if they fit into their own self-created mold.  If you listen to the noise they unleash just before the one-minute mark, you might just hear what’s in store down the road. I also suggest going to their bandcamp page for another single that offers a different glimpse of the group.
