Dark Pop-Gaze from Seatraffic

If you’re in the search for some brooding pop music, then you better press play on this new Seatraffic jam as quick as you can.  It takes almost a minute to build into the lyrics, but once the vocals come in, the dark undertones make way for the rest of the song to settle into a nice groove.  The San Francisco-based group will be releasing their latest 7″ on a limited vinyl release come August 1st, and this is the A-side for that release.  Subtle dark undertones always make for great listening, no matter what mood you find yourself in at the moment. Give a listen.

New(ish) Tunes from Veronica Falls

After releasing their self-titled album on Slumberland Records last fall, Veronica Falls was quick to return to the fold, still rocking out with the same label.  In quick succession they’ve turned around to complete a new 7″, which you can pick up right HERE.  It’s definitely got that 90s pop nostalgia, with brightly swirling guitars and a vocal performance (both male and female) that’s youthful and relaxed.  These are the kind of songs that made us fall in love with the group, so give the band a chance to warm your heart.

New Jam from the Roommates

Ben Cook and Mark Fosco have had a solid year in the music work, with their sweet jams being given out to via their respective bands, Fucked Up and Marvelous Darlings. The group, now dubbed Roommates initially set out to record some songs for fun, with the idea of limited releases, but I’m glad some of these tracks are making their way out.  On March 20th Slumberland Records will be releasing a 7″ comprised of two of these tracks, and we’ve got the A-Side to run for you today. Given their recent  musical output, it’s no wonder that this has a nice little power-pop sheen to it, with steady drum playing backing the straight-forward guitar playing.  Regardless, it’s got all the hooks to make you a fan, clamoring for more. Check it.

Brand New Jam from FIDLAR

I first wrote about LA’s FIDLAR back in May of last year, so I was really excited to find a new track in ye olde inbox today.  Apparently, the band’s got another 7″ planned for March 13th, and we’ve got the one of the tracks for your listening pleasure.  This jam definitely finds them treading the same water as their bretheren in bands liks Jeff the Brotherhood, but you can definitely here a bit of the Cali touch in the way the vocals come across.  If you need a track to blast on a nice sunny day, then you better get this song and turn it up loud, as that’s the only way to rock!

Skippy New Jam from Beach Fossils

We’ve been in love with Beach Fossils for some time now, so we’re always happy when a new track springs up out of nowhere; today was just such a day.  The group’s got a spanking new 7″ coming out on Captured Tracks on February 21st, and we’re here to share the A-side “Shallow.”  For me, the guitar line practically own the entire song, though I love those softly places vocals that get to duel it out at the same time.  If you’re looking for something to put a bit of pep in the step, then get on jamming to this track.  Don’t forget the band will be in Austin for SXSW!

Power Pop from I Was a King

One of the bands that I’ve really enjoyed following over the last several years has been Norway’s I Was a King.  They’ve just issued a really small run of a split 7″ EP on Splendour Records with Half-Handed Cloud, and I’m really enjoyhing their effort here. There’s a great swirling melody that is underscored by the guitar work, one of the prominent instruments in this band’s repertoire. If you haven’t had an opportunity to check out this band, the time is right to do so.  Hopefully this 7″ indicates the band are back on track and set to toss out something new in the near future.

Special Pop Goodness from Electric Guests

You figure that if Danger Mouse can back it, then it has got to have something to it, right? Well, such is the case with the debut record coming out from Electric Guest sometime in the Spring of 2012.  However, in the meantime we can satisfy our craving by picking up their new 7″ on Decmber 13th.  It’s got the track below, which sort of has smooth little feeling to it, like a more floating R&B track.  It’s definitely getting me to tap my toes quite a bit, and hopefully it helps round out your day in a positive light. Can you spot the Danger Mouse touch?

More Music from Fresh & Onlys

San Fran’s Fresh & Onlys are really starting to get on my nerves.  Whether it’s frontman Tim Cohen or the whole band, they just keep turning out tunes, and good ones at that.  I’ve probably spent close to $100 on this band this year alone (Tim Cohen included), which either means I’m a sucker, or they’re just that good; I’m going with the latter. P4K announced that they’ll be releasing another new 7″ in September, and based on this, there goes a bit more money from my wallet.  I’m guessing you feel the same about their whispy vocals and jangling psych guitars.

New Tunes from Grass Widow

There’s few people in the blogosphere I truly trust, so I’m always happy when Toby over at Finest Kiss gets a chance to sort through his emails and get me hip to things I might have glanced over.  He’s run a bunch of singles today, and my favorite of the batch has to be this new track from Grass Widow.  The San Fran trio has self-released a new 7″ with this track Milo Minute.  There’s definitely a post-punk pogo to the track, but the harmonies between the ladies provide allow the song to transcend your typical rehash of styles.  I get the feeling that this will be spinning around here all week.  You can get your copy HERE, which features two covers as the B-Side (Wire and Neo Boys).
