This isn’t actually an introduction, so much as a return visit to some of our old friends. Luxembourg Signal are in fact various members of Aberdeen and Trembling Blue Stars (JJ,BA, and BE to be exact), indicating to some that you’re alredy in love with the band, and you haven’t even heard them yet. They’ve just signed on with the respected folks over at Shelflife Records to release their debut 7″, and we’ve got the tune below for the A-Side. The song is crafted where it provides warmth via the the vocals, yet still holds an expansive sound that seems to always have been present in the songwriting of the core writers. Hopefully we get to hear more from the group, sooner rather than later.
If you’ve been watching these pages you’ve surely noticed our coverage for Tele Novella before, and we’re right back at it to celebrate their newest 7″. The band offers up a more sultry vocal here, with a bit of a gentle vocal caress backing the main part. It’s like a polished cut off your favorite B-movie, once again illustrating the group’s ability to wrap their own personal tastes within a pop-centric gem. The band returns to Austin on April 5th to Cheer Up Charlies in order to celebrate the release of Trouble in Paradise. We’ll see you there.

Have I mentioned lately how much I love Sea Pinks? The group first came to my attention a few years ago with their relationship to Girls Names, but since that discovery they’ve released two incredible LPs, Freak Waves and Dead Seas. Today I bring you a brand new single that you’ll definitely have to sink your teeth into. Much like Freak Waves, the vocals are up in the mix, which really does make the group all the more exciting; it allows for the natural vibe and bounce of the group to make way to your eardrums. They’ll be releasing this track on a new 7″ via the band’s label, CF Records. This totally made my week worth it.

What a great week for Shelflife Records. First they sign our friends She Sir, and now they’re off and running with a new 7″ from The Fireworks. This new single is pretty marvelous, with a buzzsaw guitar working on one part of your eardrums, while the sweet harmony of the vocals warms the other. I love the slightly poppier attitude that comes with the outro near the end. This is the second release for the label, and they’re pressing it in a very limited number, so it’s best that you get your hands on things before you miss out.

It’s been a whirlwind of a year for Kishi Bashi, who won over so many people with his glorious 151a LP. But, fans of the artist should be really excited, as he’s readying a brand new 7″, which will serve as the precursor to a new record in the next year. I don’t know how someone can listen to this song and not feel some sort of spiritual upheaval or joyous emotion overtake you; it’s this sort of attitude that has allowed Kishi to become so successful and beloved. The new 7″ will be very limited, and only made available through Joyful Noise Recordings; it will be available on September 10th.

Sorry folks, but Matinee Recordings is on a huge role at the moment, releasing their 4th great single to the masses in a little over a week. This time around, the label has picked up Seabirds to release the Real Tears 7″ this coming August. On the title track, the tune opens with just vocals and strumming, but soon opens up to a more full band sound with a female vocal accompaniment and drums. While that quick change-up is pretty special, I’m pretty stuck on the tone of the vocal itself; it’s gentle and familiar, fitting perfectly into the spectrum of great indiepop singing. Cheers to this.

I’ve already brought you one great tune from Matinee Recordings this week, and as promised, the label has more great music to share with you all. The latest song comes via Math and Physics Club; it’s easiest one of the catchiest tracks the band has composed to date. The song opens with some drum work accompanied by hand-claps, just before the rest of the act joins in with infectious guitar lines. Personally, aside from the clapping, I’m really finding myself attached to the lyrical delivery on this tune. You’ll be wise to order the Long Drag 7″ straight from Matinee Recordings, and browse while you’re there…you’ll find tons of hits to order from one of our favorite labels.
It’s been sort of a sad few months for indie pop fans, with a few of the smaller labels calling it quits. But, on the bright side of things, the next few weeks promise a few announcements from the always excellent Matinee Recordings. The first release on their list is the brand new Have You Seen Faith 7″ from Bubblegum Lemonade. Laz has fleshed out his line-up, creating three beautiful songs that illustrate the purity of indie pop. His voice, as always, has this beautiful warmth, and the guitar work rings perfectly in the background. You can order the new 7″ now from the Matinee Store.
If you haven’t seen us raving about Warm Soda, then you probably haven’t been following our site for too long. Their album released earlier this year was full of delicious power pop that continues to show up on all of our playlists. But, the band has turned around instantly with the Tell Me In a Whisper 7″. The A-side isn’t as furious as previous work, but it definitely exemplifies the group’s habit for constructing perfect melodies around their guitar chords. Soft or not, this is such a sweet jam that it only convinces me this band won’t do anything wrong. Keep writing the hits boys!

Just a short bit ago I praised the debut album from New York’s Nude Beach; it ended up making our list of top albums for 2012. Luckily for us all, we didn’t have to wait long before new tunes came our way; they have a brand new 7″ coming out for Other Music Recording. Again, the group is channeling the history of American rock n’ roll, but doing it with even more grit and balls than some of their predecessors. This tune definitely has the hooks to keep you interested, and the songwriting to show these boys are a force to be reckoned with going forth.
