Enjoy Slowcore from Gladness

There’s so many people releasing albums nowadays that your’e likely to let something delicious slip by you. Such was the case when a friend sent me the recent EP from UK outfit, Gladness; I’ve been jamming their Limbo EP pretty steadily for the last few hours. As mentioned above, there’s a definite element of slowcore at play, akin to recent New Year stuff, but with that said, there’s a touch of the more modern in it. The guitars are a bit more crisp, and the vocals when used, hide deep inside the mix like an additional instrument meant to affect your mood. Maybe its up your alley?

Fieldings Announce Debut LP

This song stuck with me immediately because of the looped piano bit that begins the track, then Lucinda Hearn entered…taking me over the edge. She has this fragility in the way her notes reach out, as if they could possibly fold beneath at any given time. As the song progress, pace is added with textured beats and guitar pieces. There’s almost an atmospheric nod to it as well, furthering the place for Fieldings in my listening rotation. Look for her new Soft Tissue LP to drop soon.

Let’s Have One More From Ultrviolence

It’s clear now that I can’t get enough of this new music from Calgary based post-punk band Ultrviolence. Man behind the project Nate Jespersen has created this beautiful sound blending together the best parts ofbands like Cold Cave and Depeche Mode with some super gritty vocal delivery. His latest single, “Dead Bedrooms”, finds many of those same elements coming through and I’m once again pleased as punch to hear more.

The Forty Knives EP drops on May 12th via Northern Lights Records.

Checking In On Glasgow: Sonic Hearts Foundation

coverThe great thing about the Internet age is that it has made life easier, especially when it comes to intercontinental communication in regards to music.  We’ve got a friend Mike in Glasgow, a hot bed of music, and he’s offered to let us see into his world and the underground scene they’ve got going on.  We appreciate his time and we’ll feature more of his suggested acts in the coming weeks, months and so forth.

One of Glasgow’s best kept secrets and talented young musicians, Sonic Hearts Foundation, create dark, emotional, grand scale music with a real belief that only seems to come out of Glasgow, like Mogwai on steroids. Gaining infamy with guerilla concerts on rooftops of liquor stores, the four piece are currently unsigned; they are deep in the studio recording their first record. Check out “Northern Lights” off their Into Forever EP. Or the new track below. The guys hope to make it to the US soon!
