Show Preview: Stephen Malkmus @ the Mohawk (2/22)

Date Wednesday, Feb 22nd
Location Mohawk
Doors 630 pm
Tickets $17 from Frontgate

It’s not like Stephen Malkmus really needs much of an introduction, or really needs to hand out incentives to come see his show at Mohawk on Wednesday.  He’s the main man from Pavement, who has carefully crafted a nice solo career since then.  You should go, period. But, you can also catch two great opening acts on the evening, Nurses and TV Torso. TV Torso are our local boys, banging out solidified indie rock tunes that stick in your head and echo in your ears. Nurses put out Draclua last year, a stunner of an album that really had the band turning heads…so get there to witness then in their glory. Two great opening acts and an indie legend. Need we say more?

Superb show going  down on Thursday night at the legendary Antone’s downtown.  Headliners Mountain Goats should be enough to get you there, but openers Nurses should convince you to get there early.  I’m sure you could find some discount tickets on craigslist or via a scalpar as the show is sold out.

It really is a crazy night in Austin with tons of shows for you to choose from in a variety of styles.  The show getting down at Lambert’s featuring indie-pop hit makers Nurses should definitely be one of the sets on your radar.  Joining the band to co-headline this show is fellow indie buzz band Dominant Legs.  Rounding things out and opening up the show you’ll get locals Boyfrndz.

New Music From Nurses

I’ve really enjoyed the music created by Portland based outfit Nurses since the first time I heard their track “Caterpillar Playground”.  This new tune called “Trying to Reach You” found below is making me an even bigger fan of the group.  You can get your hands on a new LP entitled Dracula from Nurses on September 20th via Dead Oceans.  Me gusta.

New Music From Nurses

Portland’s Nurses is a band we told you about awhile back that we really didn’t know much about at the time.  What we know now, is that the band recently wrapped recording for the follow up to their 2009 album Apple’s Arc, and we continue to dig their quirky pop tunes.  This new single from the band “Fever Dreams” appears on the band’s upcoming album Dracula due our September 20th on the Dead Oceans label.

Nurses Sign With Dead Oceans

nurses2_11Nurses is not a band we know a whole lot about other than they’re from Portland and they just signed a deal with ATH fave label Dead Oceans.  We also know that we really like this strange yet catchy new single from Nurses called “Caterpillar Playground”.  We’re going to describe it as experimental pop music.  Sound good to you?  You can get your hands on the bands debut LP Apple’s Acre on August 4th.
