Do you have a plans on Friday? No? Good. We have Glass Candy with Chromatics heading to town to play The Mohawk.

Sharp-eyed readers with a memory may recognize Glass Candy from an IT Dept. post and fans of the internet buzz will know Chromatics for their recent cover of Neil Young‘s “Into The Black”, a song in heavy rotation at Sirius XMU.

The bands had the good sense to ask ATH-local-to-watch band Orthy to open up. Flying Turns will sling vinyl to keep you dancing.

Show Preview: Letting Up Despite Great Faults @ Lambert’s (5/18)

Date 5/18/12
Location Lamberts
Doors 10pm
Tickets $8 @ Frontgate

We were very excited recently when we got word from former LA based band Letting Up Despite Great Faults that they just decided to transplant themselves to our fair city of Austin.  To celebrate their recent move, the band is planning a coming out of sorts with a show going down at Lamberts on Friday night.  The group will be headlining with support from new found Austin neighbors Orthy and Girl Dreams.  ATH will be doing everything we can to make it there to welcome this awesome new band to town.  Support the locals fools!

Show Preview: Fresh Millions @ the ND (4/11)

Date Friday, May 11th
Location The ND
Doors 900 pm
Tickets $5

Friday night is always perfect for a solid dance party, so your place to be on this rainy week definitely has to be the ND.  You’ll find a new line-up for Fresh Millions, as the group now is just the project of Geoff, working with loops and samples, rocking it out on his own.  But, while we love Geoff, there’s a couple of other names on the bill, and my personal favorite is Orthy.  I picked the group to have a huge year in Austin this year, and I want you to be a part of it.  Also, Ricky Jean Francois is filling the middle spot, and I’ve heard nothing but good things.  Dance party central? Let’s all show up and support the local gig.

Friday Top 5: Austin Artists to Watch in 2012

Usually the year begins in January, but I typically don’t get my musical gears started until after SXSW.  So I started thinking about the Austin scene, and honestly, I think it’s really struggling right now (and I don’t quite know who to blame).  But, I wanted to give a shout out to five bands that I think are going to make a huge impact this year in Austin and/or Texas, at least that’s what I’m hoping to see from them.  These aren’t in any particular order, so just go with it, and if you see that one of these bands is playing…do Austin a favor and actually go watch them play. Oh, and we included one Houston act because they’re here all the time and we love them. Deal with it.
