San Francisco based pop hit maker Painted Palms is a group that has built quite a bit of positive praise around these parts over the last year or so. The unique blend of synth/electronica with powerful pop overtones creates this delicious style reminiscent of pop music from the late 60s, experimental era. This track “Forever” brings us even more of that great sound that I mention. Hellava tune.
Don’t forget to check out “Spinning Springs” elsewhere on our site.
Once again, new album Forever will be out January 14th via Polyvinyl Records.
Here’s a great new track called “Spinning Signs” from one of our more recent discoveries Painted Palms. This song is just downright fun to listen to. It’s poppy, it has a sort of doo wop vibe, and it seems to get more enjoyable with each spin. Hope you enjoy on your spooky evening. Say wha?
On January 14th you can pick up new album, Forever, on Polyvinyl.
We’ve covered Painted Palms before, and now we’ve all got even more reason to celebrate, as the group has just put up the FREE Nothing Lasts Long EP for your ears. According to our sources, the story behind the release was for the duo to experiment with the worlds where psychedelia and electronica collide; they even intended to create is as a mixtape of sorts. I’m really digging this tune below, with a really solid groove that grabs you from the get go. You can grab yourself this rad little EP HERE.

Painted Palms are a band that have played the opening role to numerous touring acts coming through town like Of Montreal and Starfucker, to name a few. To be honest, I’ve never paid much attention to the band until today when I found myself jamming along to this new song “Click”. It’s a bright and sunny pop song that could easily be compared to the aforementioned bands that they’ve toured with in Austin. However you want to describe or compare it, you can’t deny that you’re already bobbing your head with that catchy ass beat.
This tune is the B-side to the group’s new 7″ single Carousel which is available for shipping on March 22nd via Polyvinyl Records. You can also hear the A-side streaming via the Painted Palms bandcamp page.
I like outside shows when it is cold.
Starfucker headlined The Mohawk last Saturday. Alexico and Painted Palms opened the sold out show (honestly a bit surprised) that was made warm with merriment and spirits, or whatever else. Starfucker pulls a weird blend of show-goers including some old people (mainly me). It was a young crowd, it was a good crowd.
Head past the break for pics and show notes…

While praise has been mixed with the last couple of Of Montreal releases, no one will ever argue that the band put on one of the most extravagant, not to mention creative, live shows. Thus, this is where you should be on Tuesday night when the group rolls into the Mohawk. I’m thinking that since the Mohawk has a small stage, you’ll get a little bit more of a musically focused production than some might expect, but I promise you, this is a good thing. Opening up for the group is Painted Palms, and if that’s not enough you can stick around afterwards to catch one of our favorite local acts, One-Hundred Flowers, though we heard Kevin is DJing over at Elysium. You’ll be happy either way.
