Bouncing Pop Rocker from CLIFFFS

It feels early in the week to really need a burst of energy, but so be it, I need a good pop rock tune! Luckily, there’s this new tune from Dallas’ outfit, CLIFFFS, which features John Dufilho of Deathray Davies. It’s exactly what you’d expect from one of Dufilho’s project, though this one definitely feels like it’s got some arena rock lineage. The riffs are huge and the chorus can be screamed at full blast; the song itself, even has a harsh little backing vocal to keep the rock n’ roll edge alive here. The group will release their sophomore LP Panic Attack via State Fair Records next month.

Reminding You to Enjoy Fatty Cakes and the Puff Pastries

Let’s face it, punk rock went mainstream long ago; it lost its luster, grew commercial, but from time to time, it’s managed to find its way back to us. If that sentiment registers, then you’re going to want to grab the self-titled LP from Fatty Cakes and the Puff Pastries. The Fresno outfit has established themselves as the ‘body positive queercore riot pop” outift that you never knew you needed; the single below has the band rejoicing with “I’m a weirdo.” It’s freeing, they’re celebrating their imperfections (as we all should), and while they do it, they fill the song with this infectious rhythm and discordant guitars giving you the 1-2 punch of glee and grit. The self-titled LP drops this Friday via Emotional Response Records.

Happy Punk from Girl Tears

girltearsI cringe at the word pop punk,so I wanted to stay away from that with the latest single from Girl Tears, though I think there are definitely poppies elements hanging about in this single. That said, it’s a furious tune, hitting you with pummeling drums right from the start; it sort of reminds me of the hook laden punk that Terry Malts bring to the table. As quickly as the song bursts into play, it wraps up and is over…that might be the song’s only detracting quality. You will have more tunes to enjoy soon, however, as the group releases Woke Against the Tide on October 28th via Sinderlyn.
