Billy Bonbon Share Paradise Video

Somedays you wake up and you just need a song to run along side you, something to carry you to the next level; I definitely needed Billy Bonbon today, as I crawl out of a Thursday funk. This one caught me instantly, playing that sort of surf meets indiepop vibe, using quick rushing guitar lines to introduce the track; I loved the bubbly nature that just had my toes tapping beneath my desk. When the vocals join the fray, they’re coated a bit, giving them that sort of misty wash that alludes to a dreamier tendency in the group’s songwriting. Just watch the video, as they’re definitely embracing the joy in this tune, and I hope you do too!

New Single From Hoorsees

Parisian quartet Hoorsees have continued to impress over the last few years with their evolution into a truly French, indie pop/rock beast. New single “Ikea Boy” expertly displays this growth with hints of Strokes style guitar riffs playing over delicate touches of baroque pop. Of course the new single comes with the announcement of an anticipated new record entitled Big, which is due out on January 12th via Kanine Records. Ya dig.

Fleur Bleu E Prep Debut Album, Share Single

If you find yourself drifting a bit today, then might I suggest you dive into this new track from Parisian outfit Fleur Bleu E, accompanying the announcement of their debut LP. Almost instantly you’re steeped in this almost ambient vocal; it’s as if you’re ears are being caressed ever so carefully from the inside. It’s likely we’d probably file this under dream pop, but the way that it creates this cinematic vibration seems to supersede the genre…could just be me. Anyways, escapist pop music is at its best here, so keep an eye out for Unrequited Love this Fall via Pan European Recordings.

Bad Pelicans Drop Paris Video

This likely doesn’t happen to everyone, but by chance have you ever invested in a song to a point where you just can’t turn away from it? You’re drawn in, unsure if you love it or hate it. This happened with the latest single from Bad Pelicans. Musically, I’m on board through and through; I might adjust some volume in certain spots, but overall, its a rad tune. The vocals are what throws me here. At first, I thought surely they’re mocking modern trends, but then matched with the video, I’m sucked in, and I can’t get out of just loving this tune. Give it a spin, and look for their next LP, Eternal Life Now, at the end of the year courtesy of Geographie Records.

Persica 3 Announce Tangerine + Share Water Lily Single

Parisian outfit Persica 3 will be releasing Tangerine in the first weeks of March, and they’ve just shared this little sample of what’s coming your way, thus why I’m here pointing you in their direction. There’s not too much out there about those working on the songs, but they’re crafting these beautiful soundscapes that will make folks think back on acts like Stereolab, or more recent pushes by Dummy. It’s pop collage work, at times taking risks to get lost in the musical woods, exploring the paths that leads you nowhere, only to retrace the steps and start anew, each time bringing in more texture to the fold. Grab a cup of coffee, pull your chair to the window, and let this song take your mind out into the world. Look for Tangerine on March 4th courtesy of Hidden Bay Records.

Special Friend Share Ennemi Commun

Not too long ago I raved about “Pastel,” the first single from Special Friend‘s forthcoming Ennemi Commun album…and here we are today with the LPs title track. Rather than dwell on the sweetness of the first single, this one pushes you into the fuzzy arena of that sort of porto-psych-pop, like someone who went to Levitation festival that was really into everything Laetitia Sadler’s done then churned this out on the other side. And I’m not complaining one bit. Plus, Erica gets the spotlight on this one, riding in between the fuzzy edges with this distant support from Guillaume, or so it would seem. I love the wobbly synth lines in there too, all before the song jettisons out into this spacey rock exploration. Ennemi Commun drops on March 26th!

En Attendant Ana Share In/Out

I’ve spent a lot of time as of late listening through the forthcoming LP from En Attendant Ana, and I think the diversity of the listen is really going to force people to pay attention to the work of the Parisian outfit. This new single still flirts with the sonic experimentation that’s prevalent throughout the record, but the innate hook in the song is undeniable. The song’s latter half has the repeat of “in/out” that sort of entrances you; it leaves you with a sense of playfulness, while building a textural layer that elevates the band beyond your average purveyors of pop. Juillet will be out on January 24th via Trouble in Mind Records.

Special Friend Share Before Video

Two things that Special Friendhave going for them at the moment…1) they reference a mix of Yo La Tengo/the Pastels in their sound 2) they hail from the same scene that’s given us recent faves like En Attendant Ana and Marble Arch. I mean, that would be enough, usually, but they’ve also go the songwriting chops to back that up. I love the casual quality of the guitars, sharp chords ringing brightly before quieted picking comes in. They also meld their vocals perfectly, with huge shared melodies that should warm any fan of good pop music. They’ll be releasing their new EP on September 27th via Howlin Banana Records!

Lovely Video From Fiasco

It’s been a crazy week here and I’m looking for some nice tunes to close out the week and send me into a relaxing weekend. Oddly enough, I’ve found my weekend jam from Parisians Fiasco and their latest single “Spring Thorns”. For me the band has a unique and interesting approach to a largely overdone shoegaze/coldwave genre. The song has a nice and bright guitar, husky vocals, and this feeling of urgency as if the song might just come off the rails at any point.

Fiasco will release a new EP entitled Duel on May 24th via in silico records.

Promising Pop Number From Fiasco

Sometimes it can be very refreshing to find a new band when you’ve felt like music has been pretty blah over the last week or so. Such is the case with this new single called “b(l)ack” from Paris based artist Fiasco. What starts as a clear bedroom pop number eventually builds into an almost R&B, hip hop track with hot beats and a sick bass line. It’s a true jam and I hope you’ll agree.

As I’m now hooked on the music, I’ll be sure to keep you posted as news some in on the band.
