This is fine.
Saturday night is always about fun. Your body gets to rest during the day, you get to party all night, and recover on Sunday. That’s why having Quintron and Miss Pussycat in town was perfect for Saturday night, not to mention opening acts The Golden Boys and Dent May.

We braved the hot temperatures and hordes of tribal tattoos to catch Crocodiles over at Stubbs; the band was opening for Temper Trap. After releasing Endless Flowers just last week, I’d already gotten familiar with the bands tunes, which might not have been the case for the majority of those in attendance. I’d been looking forward to seeing Spiritualized for awhile now, ever since the show popped up on the calendar. I knew it would be a packed house, and it was pretty full over at Emos, which always has an upside and a downside.

After a week spent listening to psychedelic rock n’ roll, I needed something to cleanse the spirits. I just wanted something refreshing and fun, something to get me back into the mood for a relaxing week, and Allo’ Darlin and the Wave Pictures definitely helped me out.

Bear In Heaven rode into town riding the waves of praise from their recent release, I Love You It’s Cool. While the crowd filled the room for their set, it’s possibly many missed the stupendous opening acts at the Parish. Come on people, go to shows early!

As the end of one of my busiest weeks in months came to an end, I was really excited to see Frankie Rose over at Red 7. The show also featured several rising stars such as Dive and The Young, so we couldn’t complain, especially after all the work put in to make the venue more enjoyable.

In a week of packed shows, Wednesday was definitely full of shows, from Spoon to Real Estate to Bowerbirds to Keep Shelley in Athens, and we found ourselves at several…actually, all but Spoon. Read on for a few brief notes on Twerps and Real Estate, and Brian Gray’s excellent photos.
Amid all the hype and recent accolades, Cloud Nothings breezed into town, only to be pushed outside by the Sony Vita Lounge. The redesigned Red 7 definitely provided an awkward pre-show ambiance, but as we would soon find out, nothing was going to stop Cloud Nothings.
The former Pavement singer/guitarist returned to Austin at the newly renovated Mohawk, but he was here to promote Mirror Traffic–no hopes of Pavement songs! Local boys TV Torso opened up the gig, and Nurses were the middling act on a pretty laid back evening over at the Mohawk.
Alison Mosshart gets a lot of credit for her prowess as a front woman, both for The Kills and Dead Weather. We had to see for ourself how her new album was going to play out, plus we got to see our favorites Jeff the Brotherhood in the process.
