Last Week’s Jams (2.24 – 2.28)

Pretty solid wee of new music last week, and we got to as much as our time allowed. We even managed to start getting some of our SXSW coverage together, as the festival is somehow just over the horizon; RayRay got an interview up with Population II you should check out. We even got back on some album stream coverage, making sure to have the homies in Constant Follower and Daily Worker up there. We continue as the one-site hype machine for Sharp Pins Radio DDR reissue, but there some of my favorite acts also returned with their own new jams to grab us, like Dumb Things and Jetstream Pony. I even jumped on the Sports Team train with their latest single. Get into it below.

Stream Plastic Bubble’s Big Day Parade

While they begin work on new material following their Circular Breathing EP, Kentucky’s Plastic Bubble have decided to go back in time and let us immerse ourselves in their earliest works: the Big Day Parade LP. It’s their debut album, and one that wasn’t available on streaming platforms, until now. It’s a glimmer at where the band would go, showing early signs of psychedelic pop music for the masses, akin to acts like Ladybug Transistor and such. This single below features vocals from Sydney Chadwick of ATH faves Wombo too, so it seems like they’ve always embraced a familial affair in their recording. Enjoy the tune below, and then hop over to stream it on your preferred DSP. You can even buy a CD from Jigsaw HERE.

Last Week’s Jams (8.19 – 8.23)

Well folks, I’m back in the game full time, teaching, coaching and all that jazz. So, I didn’t hit my previous mark of nearly 30 songs in a week. But, we still had some really great stuff on the site, so it’s organized below in its usual playlist fashion. One of the best group’s in the game, Feeling Figures, bounced out with a rad new single, plus our old pal Caroline Says also announced her first LP in some years. We gave a shout out to some great records by Fake Fruit, Chime School, Hits and more (and yes, I missed Wut and the Softies). Oh, and new jams from UV-TV and High Water Marks closed out the week, so I guess you could say, it was a pretty good time!

Plastic Bubble Share Recontextualize + Drop New EP

Classic brands of pop indie rock come few and far between, which is why it’s always a blast to sit down and listen to what Kentucky’s Plastic Bubble are making happen. We’ve got the opening track below from their new The Circular Breathing EP. This single hits you with chugging guitar strokes, stuttering in a sense that offers up a nice bit of swinging momentum. They adopt their own lesson too, recontextualizing their own single, switching from the frolicking pop rock into a more ethereal dreamscape that opens the listener to some tasty vocal melodies sliding through. Get your pop rocks on below!

Jigsaw Records to Release Plastic Bubble LP

bigI think you’re really going to enjoy spending some time with the latest Plastic Bubble LP. Jigsaw Records has just released the band’s Big Day Parade, which has 20 songs of hooks for pop lovers.  It reminds me of a less orchestrated version of Cats on Fire, bringing in ringing guitar sounds, some added flare and a heavy dose of warm melody.   You can press play and take yourself on a journey of great pop music, and that’s probably the best way to spend your Monday.  It’s available now, with the digital version also being offered up by the band. Get on it.
