Pollen Continue w/ Promise of 4 LPs in 2016

pollenEarlier this year Pollen dropped their first LP of 2016, Confidence Will Kill You, but they aim to back up their bravado with another album in April, Scandinavian Wool. I’ve really been gravitating towards this single quite a bit; there’s something classic in the structures of the song, reminiscent of the fuzzier, early days of Brit pop. There’s a melody, but just enough mud and fuzz on the mix to make it more than your ordinary fare. Look for the new effort to be released on Royal Mint, with the promise of two new LPs to follow. Will it all be good? I bet so!

Here’s a New Pollen Track

pollPollen is a Finnish based-act (not to be confused with the Philly power-pop act, nor that Austin artist formerly known as). They’ve just upped this brand new single, and I think fans of Hot Chip or LCD Soundsystem will definitely find a sound to enjoy within the confines of this video. Still, what’s drawing me to the track isn’t the throbbing pulse of the song itself, but rather the music working beneath each layer…jazzed up percussion, touches of horns and electronic flourishes. This video comes from the band’s new album, Confidence Will Kill You, which comes out January 15th via Royal Mint Records.

Pollen Polish Off Some Pop Songs

pollI was fairly unaware of Pollen until the other day, but having hit upon the group’s new single, I’m now going back and devouring their catalog, whilst looking forward for more tunes. This track’s a great little gem, operating on a strummed guitar, simple percussion and a lo-fi aesthetic that still sounds incredibly charming to me. Having been quiet for nearly a decade, the band are set to burst in 2016 with a slew of new songs and four albums, including their upcoming album, Confidence Will Kill You. It’s all being handled by Royal Mint Records who have a very limited 7″ out now, with more music to come in January.

Austin Spotlight: Pollen

artworks-000076438282-4l1oko-t500x500I’ve been looking through all the upcoming shows, trying to find something new that I could really gravitate to, which is when I discovered this track from Pollen.  The band’s fairly new to town, but they’ve already booked a really great show at Blackheart Bar with LA Snacks and Party Girl (4/25).  It’s a free show, and it should have this catchy little tune played in the garage-rock realm to keep you bouncing on your toes throughout the evening.  For me, I love the crunchy sound of the guitar and the riding of the cymbals by the drummer, but it’s the erratic vocal delivery that really sells me on the group.  Hopefully we’ll see you at the Blackheart next week: it’s free!
