Julia Jacklin Delivers Again

Julia Jacklin has slowly become one of my favorite female voices in the music world over the last year or so. She seems to effortlessly deliver in this sort of restrained, raspy tone while seemingly on the verge of exploding at any moment. Add in just the right amount of bluesy guitar, and you’d be spot on in a description of her latest single “Cold Caller”. It won’t get much better than this in the singer/songwriter genre.

“Cold Caller” is part of a 7″ single release out today on Polyvinyl Records. Maybe you should order a copy here. Flip side single “Eastwick” can be heard here.

Did You Watch This New Alvvays Video?

This may be yesterday’s news, but when a band that delivers a debut album that’s full of pop hits and then follows up as triumphantly as Alvvays has, I feel like more people should take notice. We’ve already been graced with the audio of this song, but then the band doubled down and went the extra mile with this dreamy video for “In Undertow” that they shared yesterday. The cosmic video makes me think that they have taken their already soaring indie pop a step further into the stars on their upcoming sophomore release,Antisocialites,which will be out September 8 viaPolyvinyl.I’m stoked for that release–are you?

 

Alvvays Just Made My Day

I think it’s probably obvious that we’ve been waiting anxiously for news of new Alvvays music. Today it comes with the announcement of Antisocialites, which will come out in September via Polyvinyl. There’s a dream-like quality to the latest single, filling in the space with cascading distortion while Molly Rankin wraps her pipes around it all. I love how the band return without beating you over the head with some easily disposed hook, instead crafting a number that begs attention to details all the way to Rankin’s high-pitched fade out on the end. Rest assured, this album will be a gem.

Nost-Rock From White Reaper

Sometimes you forget how much you love a band and then said band releases a new track or two and you’re instantly reminded of that affection. This was the story for this new track from White Reaper— it’s got this nostalgic rock sound mixed with the same fresh energy that this band always seem to bring to the scene. So perhaps you’ve already seen this track floating about in the internet world but didn’t have the time to take a listen. Well, now is the moment to change that. Blues Themed Indie Rock From Julia Jacklin

unnamed-11It seems like a great time in the rock n roll world to discover some truly gifted and talented young ladies rocking their craft. Hell Lucy Dacus and Basia Bulat were easily my two favorite acts from ACL this weekend and now I’ve got this new jam from Julia Jacklin waiting for me on Monday morning. The track begins as a slower ballad which then builds into a swoon worthy, melodic, blues themes ballad. I believe she will be a household name before too long.

Don’t Let the Kids Win is due out on October 7th via Polyvinyl.

STRFKR Has A Lovely New Jam

ShensSTRFKR is the socially acceptable version of Starfucker. They are playing Sound on Sound Fest. I will watch their set with glee and shimmy. Given the level of shenanigans at previous shows that included astronauts, horse heads, Gumby, LED walls and more, they are high on my fest list.

They have a new record called Being No One, Going Nowhere on Polyvinyl that is due for release the weekend of the fest, so take you twenty and get some fest-flavored vinyl. From that, we have a lovely groove called “Tape Machine”.

Bouncing Electro Pop From Psychic Twin

Today she put out a new video for the track, “Lose Myself,” which is taken from her upcoming album,Strange Diary.The song is a pulsating and sleek example of electronica, but Fein’s vocals counterbalance these cold sounds with her welcoming vocal presence. The result is a dance-able groove, with a catchy chorus to get you singing along. Painted Palms Deliver Another Hit

paintedpalmsI am getting behind this new Painted Palms record in a big way. The previously released track had a slower groove to it, quite reminiscent of Jagwar Ma. “Tracers” brings more of the dance party using beachy vocals and digital pop goodness, quite reminiscent of Cut Copy with Yaz‘s synth punctuations.

Horizons was recorded with some former-DFA wizardry from Eric Broucek and will land on September 4th via Polyvinyl

Painted Palms Give Us a Hit

Painted Palms has given us so many hits over the last couple of years it’s hard to believe the band has even more sweet jams to give.  Today comes news of an upcoming album and the release of yet another one of those great songs I was just mentioning.  This one is called “Disintegrate” and is surely a song that will make your weekend, or even summer, good times playlist.  I’m already dropping it into mine.  Carry on.
